Are you happy to "shower in someone else's dirt"?

not quite correct, Estimates are we lose 25,920 liters per day into space. but it does depend on what metrics you look at as to how to determine those figures.
Those figures are based on oxygen ion loss but you can also calculate it on hydrogen lost to space which gives a MUCH bigger figure... a figure that suggests 1/4 of the earths water has been lost to space since it existed.

I will not use campsite showers at all but swmbo will if we are on a site and they meet her standards. If she uses the siye showers it does save time as we can both shower at the same time, not possible in the mh, shower not that big.

Being able to shower together is a big deciding factor for us when choosing to use campsite showers rather than our own :tounge:

Well no one will be showering under that bit I guess unless they are on the ISS..:D

Quite stunned that so many funsters are such delicate souls.... Having spent 55 years at sea in the MN including plenty of time in shore establishments, dry-dock and shipyard heads, most campsite loos I've been in have been pretty salubrious. Main reason I use campsite showers a lot is SWMBO is taking up the onboard facilities and despite it being an RMB there just aint room for the two of us at once. If I waited for her to finish before I got in there we'd probably be better buying a static...

So it will be a concentrated solution then ;)

I hope he wasn't still on it when it got sunk?

We have a shower easily big enough for two...................................Winnebago in their wisdom moulded in a removable hanging rail, so its now rammed with her clothes.
Yes he was on it but survived. Spent days in the jungle and eventually got to Australia where he was put into the Aussie navy for a while. He had quite a war ...survived the first air attack on uk in Edinburgh where he was on HMS Edinburgh protecting naval base. In attack he was badly wounded, had the last rites and a nervous breakdown, no counselling for him as he was later put on The Wales.

We sometimes use our own shower and/or toilet, and we sometimes use campsite facilities, when we’re on a campsite and they’re up to scratch. That’s the great thing about motorhomes, they give you freedom of choice. You don’t have to do the same thing every day.
With you on this one. Depends on the facilities and often the weather......if it’s pouring down at night I will use the loo in the van, other times I may venture out. My van shower is excellent for heat and flow but if the campsites are good I will probably use theirs. Recently we travelled to France and Belgium. The Belgian campsite had great loos and showers. The French one not so good, no toilet seats or loo paper ( which we knew about pre arrival) and the shower was a 20 second blast which was a bit of a pain when you had shampoo in your hair !! Could have used the van but really couldn’t be bothered, it’s a little snug. On a plus side, we found the most amazing toilets in Dunkerque, behind the church where the tourist office is. Brand spanking new, immaculately clean and very modern. Made having a wee a pleasure for a change rather than than many I have encountered in France.

I am surprised some people are so precious and delicate when voicing their complaints about the state of some showers at campsites.. have we all forgotten how to camp and adjust to a casual way of life? Ah well l guess ? some of them could retreat to a nice 5star hotel in pursuit of luxury if they can find a parking spot for the van

He had quite a war didn't he, brave man. Must have been very interesting listening to him.
Guy I worked with years ago got sunk three times, on one occasion he said we rolled up in the med in the morning, by the afternoon I was in the water. Ship was hit by one of the first German guided bombs.
At Manganese and Bronze we had Fitters Mates, Charlie who was mine was captured at Singapore with the Royal Norfolks.

And from the otherside a German ex pow who I got to to know during my apprenticeship gave me an insight into why so many Germans including him supported Hitler.

So many stories of the reality of conflict these guys could tell us, but most aren't written down and just get lost when they die.

Yes some amazing stories. My dad very rarely talked about it. From the HMS Edinburght attack as kids we were always picking the shrapnel bits out of his back many years later. When the Wales went down he got picked up by some fishing boats, but jap planes spotted it and sank that.....back in the water again watching the planes fly about them. One flew down at him with its guns set to fire on him, he said he could see the whites of the pilots eyes but for some reason the pilot spared him and did the victory roll and flew off. Despite all of that he said his scariest moment was having to go in the night before D Day to mine sweep the area.

Why would we want to do that when we have all the same facilities in the motorhome? And the alcohol is much cheaper.

We generally don't use the showers on site very often. While on the Outer Hebrides we decided to use the rather nice showers on a site rather than getting soaked filling our water tank in heavy rain. It was one which you put the money in and you have 5 minutes to shower. When does the 5 minutes start? When you put the money in or after you've stripped and turn on the tap?
I must have spent 3 or 4 minutes trying to get the scalding water to a safe temperature then became aware that the time may run out when I'm all lathered up with soap :Eeek:
I don't think I did get all the shampoo out of my hair, I would have put more money in the box if it didn't mean leaving the cubical in a towel to do so.:giggler:

The site showers we use are good, if not we move on, simple as. We rarely use the van wet room.

Apart from anything else I don't use site showers for the simple reason I would have to go out of the motorhome to do so. As it is I can fall out of bed, have a shower, get dressed and ready to go. I have no inclination to need to be at least moderately decently dressed, go for a walk in often unsuitable weather, just to do something I could have done without the fuss. I do understand those not wanting to use a wet room shower though, a proper separate one that you don't have to dry out after use is an absolute red line in my choice of motorhome.

If the showers are nice I use them but if not I use ours but it is just a trigger one so a bit basic but I'm not too prissy about the quality as long as it does the job, after all, just think where my hands have been! I reckon I may not be getting as many hugs in future and no-one will want a drink off me at future rallies.

Why not use campsite showers & toilets as long as they are clean,do you go swimming or use hotels, don't some people shower.

When I left school, I started a welding apprenticeship with the NCB and my workshop shared the site of the former colliery, although the pit head had been capped many years before I started there.
The pit head baths remained and it was great to be able to shower before getting in the car, or on the pit bus.

I never counted them, but estimate upwards of 60 open showers, amongst the same number of hairy arsed colleagues, with as many again waiting to jump in as soon as you were out of the way....... and that is the reason you’ll rarely see me complain about site or van showers !! ?

Plastic flip flops that’s your answer as long as the waters hot

Campsite showers do vary, but I always wear flip flops.......... But the worst shower I had was when I was on tipper work, arriving at a colliery one night and loaded a load of coal, found some showers but couldn't find a light switch, Oh well a shower in the dark is better than No shower.
Or so I thought until I got back in the cab and finding not only was I black, :crying: everything I took in there was black. Bob

I’m just trying to figure out how you’re showering in someone else’s dirt.
Surely the water washes away any dirt.

Or is it magnetic dirt ?

Please let us know where these free C&MC sites are - because the ones I've even ventured on (only a few) were bl**dy expensive overpriced sites ?

:france: :france: :france: :france:
By free i meant you dont have to put 20p in a coinbox and get 39 seconds of cold water before it cuts off just as you lather your hair in shampoo. ?

I was slightly amused by a letter in this months MMM magazine where a reader describes using campsite showers as having a "shower in someone else's dirt".
The waters clean for goodness sake, that’s why the dirt comes off!!!!!!!
What about gymnasiums and public swimming pools.
I thought the younger generation were called snow flakes??

For me the whole point of a motorhome is to be self-sufficient. Otherwise might as well have a tent or caravan.

As far as showers go, two words stick in my mind "Legionnaires' disease".

I’m happy to use all the kit on my pvc. Indeed having just upgraded from tenting the greatest luxury is the onboard loo. But the cupboard is small (what do I expect for a 5.4m van) and I’ve only got 60litre max of water. So if a site has amenities I’ll make use of their showers but I won’t be walking to the loo. Showers can vary widely current CC site may be push button but it’s hot and the jet power almost blew me out through the shower screen, past the cubicle door into the wider beyond.
