Hi there. Fuel prices.
I went to fill up my car yesterday and paid £1.46 a litre. (diesel)
Today, I had to fill up the boss’s car, and went to the same filling station. I noticed the price for diesel has gone up to £1.56 a litre. I asked if they had had a delivery and was told no.
So Mr Sainsbury bought the diesel at one price and because the price of crude oil has gone up, he is now selling the same fuel at a higher price. (Other fuel sellers also exist)
This is why the oil companies are making so much money out of us mug motorists. They push up the price and we all pay it.

Thoughts?

For better or worse, we live in a free-market economy. Retailers can sell at any price they choose, regardless of the price they paid.

Similarly, as consumers we have the freedom to choose who we buy from. If a forecourt appears to be overpriced, then you should fill up elsewhere.

As an aside to an earlier comment - busy supermarket forecourts may require several deliveries a day. The fuel in their tanks will not have been sat around for days.

In our town a few years ago all the fuel garages sold at similar prices, nothing between them and they were accused if ringing the prices and forming a cartel. The cheapest by apenny was Tesco but 8 miles away at a bigger Tesco the price was around 5p cheaper. When the local Tesco was challenged re this disparity he advised he was only obliged to be competitive in the local area.
It has changed since though.for the better.

In answer to your question....no we not daft... we are being ripped off and as motorists we have been ripped off ever since the car was invented...
Government... oh we need a pay rise and need to top up our depleted pensions.... what on earth are we going to do...I know... HIT THE MOTORIST. Again.

On Monday we were on Anglesey in the van, during the evening we passed a couple of stations where the price was around £1.65, but at Tesco’s in Holyhead it was £1.59 with a tanker parked up possibly making a delivery.
We called at Tesco’s for some foodstuff the next morning and the tanker was still there and the price was still £1.59. So not sure if they had a delivery or whether the tanker driver lives nearby and parks there, so I bought some anyway. Glad I did as £1.59 now sounds a bargain.

Just got off the phone with a friend who's over in France atm (another Funster).

He said he paid 2.20 Euros today.

Good I thought. While I'm stuck here in the cold working my nuts off

Good point, never thought of that. A sort of petrol one day, diesel the next.
Not really. An articulated tanker can deliver in excess of 35,000 lites of fuel, within typically 4 to 6 seperate compartments. A busy supermarket typically will take a full tanker at a time, of both unleaded and diesel.

Just paid £1.77. a litre for Esso diesel in Burnley tonight and the garage was busy but not queuing out the forecourt. I have an Esso card so that reduces the pain by 4p a litre. It’s only going to get worse for a while, the only good thing is that I budgeted £350 per month for fuel in my retirement planning and so far nit got anywhere near that.

I was told I'm Germany they will change the prices at different times of day
They do indeed I recall filling up and as I was leaving I saw the price change on the board.

Hi there. Interstate development yesterday, the pump prices have gone up again yet the price of crude oil went down by 12%.
Go figure that one!

This morning a spokesperson for the fuel distributive industry said that although the price of crude has dropped a bit it will take 'several weeks' before this is reflected at the pumps.
No surprise there.

I’ve always thought one of the main problems with fuel prices was the number of company cars on the road. I never looked at prices until I started working for myself.

Ok but isn't there a lag between what is brought at X price refined sold used then the price drops as the pricing comes through. The Cynic in me thinks that the Government doesn't mid as they just get more revenue from the higher pricing...

It depends if you expect the garage to sell all the fuel until the tank is dry before refilling and if you expect when prices drop like in the lockdown whether you're happy to keep paying the higher price after other garages drop theirs. If they all changed only on a delivery it would be chaos with everyone driving around trying to find old stock

The price of fuel bears little resemblance to the price of crude. The increase in crude cost is just a ratchet to the price of fuel as when crude goes down fuel seldom follows to any extent. Brent topped in 2014 at more than $140+ then dropped way down into the low $40's if memory serves before coming back up very slowly to just under $100 before the crisis. Did fuel in any way track it....? It is BS of the finest quality to suggest that the price of crude relates directly to the price of fuel. Where the difference goes though ....?

He eathier a panick buyer, putting £10 worth in every time he had room in tank, or as a colleague of min used do by running on an empty tank and would stop EVERY morning on his way to work and put £5.00 worth in (admittedly a few years ago).
Maybe he had a crush on attendant...😘😘😘

And if the price of crude goes up it will take “several minutes” before this is reflected at the pumps.😂

A US Gallon is 3.785 litres. Which @£1.77 is £6.77 current dollar to pound conversion makes that $8.78 so $5.99 per is Gallon gives a difference of $2.22

Maybe I am wrong but possibly there is not such a big difference and a comparable price if someone’s wages was dollars rather than pounds.

Same agin for the euro pump price it looks higher than ours until you do a € to £ conversion and it’s much the same.
