Hi there. Fuel prices.
I went to fill up my car yesterday and paid £1.46 a litre. (diesel)
Today, I had to fill up the boss’s car, and went to the same filling station. I noticed the price for diesel has gone up to £1.56 a litre. I asked if they had had a delivery and was told no.
So Mr Sainsbury bought the diesel at one price and because the price of crude oil has gone up, he is now selling the same fuel at a higher price. (Other fuel sellers also exist)
This is why the oil companies are making so much money out of us mug motorists. They push up the price and we all pay it.

Thoughts?

What I can't understand is why heating oil is now 170p instead of being half as much as petrol it's now dearer.

I was thinking the same

Sainsburys next tanker will cost them more than the last one.

What happens if oil prices then suddenly drop?

Surely people would expect them to reflect this in the cost of petrol?

They would argue that they have to replace the fuel with more expensive stocks. But they then charge more for that.

I thank the supermarkets for reining in the prices from oil company garages over the years.

Does the fuel price at the pump necessarily reflect the supply price?
I know if supply is effected the law of economics applies, but how much is profiteering!.Is there any regulation over this issue.
The same with gas.I believe 40% of uk gas comes from North Sea,should this supply be subject to large fluctuations.
I m sure somebody will answer..

My son has just posted a photo of a Shell garage in Peterborough selling diesel for £1.98.9

I would tend to avoid it!

They do, I remember passing a filling station one afternoon on the way into a stellplatz and noticed the diesel quite cheap so I made a mental note to call in and fill up next morning.
Next morning it was considerably more expensive

Dynamic pricing I think they called it, I just cursed for not filling the previous day

Esso around here is £1.72 a litre and at the same time Tesco was £1.549 a litre for diesel.
So at £1.46 you were doing well. And mine were prices from last week

I understood that they couldn’t do that, in the past ‘weights and measures’ departments of Local authorities would prosecute owners of garages. Trading standards departments now have so little staff and resources that it’s never going to happen Now.

That’s how it works. They buy in at the price. Then that same order is sold on at increasing rates even though they’ve not paid higher rates. But notice that in the unlikely event that oil prices drop, the falling prices, such as they are, have to wait for the new lower price order from the garage.

Sainsbury's at Ipswich (Warren Heath) was £153.9 when I drove past 15 minutes ago. Hopefully it will be the same tomorrow, in which case I think I can squeeze 2 gallons into the tank. :giggle:

We are daft and we are being ripped off. It's so easy for them the French would have dumped manure on the forecourts.
