Anyone with a campervan near glasgow?

Cheers otter i will keep an eye out
Did that price include or exclude VAT ?
I would buy one tomorrow at that price !
Yeah Mary that's definitely the bed arrangement I want. I'm not going to bother with a cooker/fridge/washroom though.
Thanks
Inc vat. And a 3 year guarantee.

Hi Duggie best to decide on what van you want . Layout is everything in your van so depending on what van you settle on may decide layout. Internal Width on your van is a big thing. Length is questionable because a Lwb Ducato stable van is about the same length as a Sprinter/ VW crafter 😉and a good 3 ft shorter than the above in Lwb 😀 Width wise nothing comes close to the Ducato stable vans at 6 ft 2 ins internal next is Renault at 5ft 10 ins following is transits VW Merc s,Iveco at 5/8 to 9 ins ....Transits are less than 5ft across the top 😞.Sizes are usable width between the reinforcing struts
Edit if you are buying new I would not consider not putting a loo/ shower in as it will only ever be considered as a van with a bed so only worth as much as a van not like a properly converted van 😉

Wow. That is a serious bargain. Best deal I can find is about 20k inc vat.
Well done !

Whats a ducato stable van Terry? I did Google it but can't see much

I'm definitely set on the rear dinette which converts to a bed at night. I've seen that before and think it's nice. I want something which is comfy to sit about in during the day and I don't feel I would get that with a fixed bed.

Last year me and my girlfriend hired a motorhome to try it out. It was a ford - i can't remember what model. I just felt the layout wasn't good. It had a fixed bed, a big garage and all the mod cons- big oven, fridge, microwave, TV etc but i felt it left very little room to just sit and read a book or look out the window. It wasn't homely. I sort of think less is more.

We also had a look at a fiat ducato fifer when in the hebridies recently which has the dinette - a couple showed us it. Although smaller than the ford we hired it felt a way better layout to me and was more roomy inside.

we climb and camp a lot Denise - but not in campsites. To be honest never really felt the need for a toilet/washroom. Yes it would be handy but you're never that far from a shower/toilet. We sometimes just use a wee solar shower bag thing when away on walking or canoe trips, does the job!
We are young(ish) though and are well used to roughing it!
We wouldn't ever be using the van to stay in campsites.

I agree with others about the washroom. It is one of those features that once had, wouldn’t want to be without. We have the rear lounge with a small washroom opposite the kitchen amidships. Doesn’t have to take up too much room and can be multi-purposed for hanging up wet outdoor gear etc. Our table top is also stored in there against one wall.

I guess I could add a washroom if I ever felt we needed it. But we are often away with just the estate car and it doesn't bother us not having a washroom - we will find public showers or have a swim in a river or in the sea or whatever.

Layout and payload are everything :)

Personally I would never be without a loo / shower as otherwise I may as well just take a tent. I can do without an oven (and do) and prefer a three burner hob to two.

We have a fixed bed with garage underneath as that gives us somewhere to put the bikes out of sight along with the kayak gear. Wet gear hangs in the shower to dry - another reason for having it even if it isn't used for washing human bodies. I often sit on the bed with my back against the washroom bulkhead and feet towards the back wall - with lots of pillows to support my back and as arm rests and if I pull the curtain across it is like my own little Duck House :)

We have the rear lounge IH on a 6.3 Ducato maxi chassis. Like you, we wanted a comfy lounge area even though both cab seats swivel.
The layout is on this page and might help refine your ideas.

I wasn't so much thinking about washing but toilet facilities! You're not always near public loos. Where I live the nearest public loos are at the supermarket 8 miles away and if I was desperate no way to I drive that far, yet alone walk!

Wow sounds like you really want to rough it.

Speak to lots of panel vanners before you buy, otherwise you will be changing things after the first Couple of trips. Don’t be stubborn with what you want. Listen to all sides of the story before choosing. Sorry if I sound a bit harsh, but I would hate for you to buy the wrong bit of kit.

Yeah i guess we are just used to it and it doesn't bother us ! Could always get a portaloo thing! When we hired the motorhome we were away for a week and didn't use the toilet once - couldn't be bothered emptying it !
We are getting a van more to access the hills etc - i guess we might not be typical campervanners!

Our van has a fridge freezer. One of the big plus points for us. The previous van's fridge wasn't really big enough for us - and also because of my health I have stuff that has to be kept in a fridge - not just meds but also specialist food stuffs.

It's usually me that empties the cassette and it is a non-issue as far as yukiness is concerned (as in it is just a minor housekeeping job and no more unpleasant than disinfecting kitchen surfaces and I'd rather do the cassette than wash up if I had a choice) - and takes very little time. I also prefer to be in the warm inside of the van when sitting on the (clean) doughnut in Granny's Greenhouse and with some privacy than start looking for public loos when I am leg crossed and desperate!

Haha fair enough each to their own i guess!

We are just back from a 10 day camping/ cycling trip in the hebridies - no toilet, no worries !

I'd probably get a portaloo to stick in a cupboard though, seems like a good compromise.

Maybe that's what all the wee VW type vans do !

Ducato stable vans are Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat ,all same vans different badges with Fiat having their own engine's. Also called Seville vans😉
After reading your wants and not bothered about I think the best way for you Togo may be a VW t6 with a rock and roll bed/ side kitchen and pop top. They hold money really well a bit like a properly converted PVC with a loo/ shower.
You may not think you are bothered about selling your van ,but a few years down the line you may want to change and then you want to get as much as poss for your investment.

Cheers terry

Yeah my cousin has the vw with the pop up roof
I get the advantages but it's not for me. just a little bit on the small side - i am keen to have something a bit bigger to chill in.
I cycle everywhere day to day - i only need transport when heading up north so I don't mind having something a bit bigger as my only vehicle. I'm pretty set on a medium height van in a medium or long wheelbase. I think it is the best compromise for me
Thanks

Hi Duggie go for a full height van because come sale time you limit your buyer's with medium. Most will want to stand up in a PVC 👍 Don't get confused with extra high vans 😉 If I remember right only Transits come with a medium roof option all the others are low, high and extra high

Hi Terry yes that's what I will get
Something just shy of 2m usually which is fine for me even with the insulation etc

I don’t know much about it, but I have a feeling that if you buy a new van & only half convert it (just a bed), you would be considerably devaluing it straight away. Those that want a works van wouldn’t want to bother ripping out the conversion, & those that want a camper usually want a toilet/wash space & a basic kitchen. Take a look at the self build section of the forum where there is all the expertise you might need. You are probably a lot younger than most folk on here, so will be getting an old uns perspective, but experience can also be useful. Think about a van with space for bikes in the back maybe? Also if you’re hiking & climbing, you will be leaving the van in some remote spots, so hidden bikes can be a good thing - to say nothing of the space required for ropes, gear etc! If I squint really hard & look back into the past I can just remember all the outdoors & climbing stuff we used to carry with us! we are a nosey lot on here, so keep us posted with what you decide!

Where do you want to stay, on club sites or wild camping?

I'd still do the full conversion thing, just doubt i would go for a full wash room. I'd want everything else though -diesel heating, windows, electrics and so on and so on.

Our trips are 90% of the time in scotlands highlands and islands either walking/climbing or canoeing. We pretty much always camp, usually somewhere remote and have the odd night in the back of the skoda or a hotel.

Having a van would be great. It would be lovely to get back from a hard couple of days on the hill to a nice warm van !

Our main use would be in the spring/summer/winter. We have a boat so spend a lot of the summer on it and the roads up here are very busy now during peak season!

I've signed up to the site so I'll let you know what I get. Today it is a new van, but the decision changes daily !

Have a look at utube channel George on ‘humble road’ he has some fantastic ideas. I can understand you not wanting a full washroom, but he is doing 2 vans at present and his idea for a combined shower and cupboards is brilliant I am so sorry he didn’t post his vid this time last year.
