I wonder if many others have encountered unbidden hostility simply because you drive a motorhome?

I have been driving these lovely vans since 1980 (a Bedford CF, various VW combie's, a Winnebago and now a Kontiki 649) and I've never had a problem. But my eldest son recently bought his first motorhome and has had some very negative experiences - from people flicking the V's at him to being cut up, or just getting nasty looks.

OK, I've had people a bit miffed if they get stuck behind us on a long country road, but nothing major; yet my lad, a good ''advanced'' driver is seeing some hostility. Maybe it's because he's young and people are resentful? I don't know.

Without opening a ''nasty'' thread of horrible stories, I'd be interested to know of others' experience in this regard.

Happy New Year, one and all!

Yes in the UK, we put it down to having French number plates on the van, we have also had similar experiences' when we have come over with our French registered car.

Does the USA not havs a 'Blue Badge; system, or equivalent.

Eligible disabled US citizens either have a disabled registration plate fitted or use a disabled parking placard; the normal practice is to hang the latter fom the rear view mirror, but it can be placed on the dashboard.
Almost all US states have a reciprocal agreement to allow a UK blue badge to be used.

I always display the blue badge on the dashboard along with a laminated copy of the reciprocal agreement for the area we are visiting. The problem is that we encountered quite a few 'Karens' who, presumably, on seeing that we did not have a disabled registration plate or a placard hanging from the rear view mirror, assumed that we were parking unlawfully, and then decided to remonstrate with us, a couple filming our vehicle. Most retreated red faced when I pointed out the blue badge and they saw our lass's wheelchair.

Yes. They are orange but you are supposed to apply separately for each county you visit, or at least, that is/was true in Florida.

They now accept the UK blue badge everywhere in Florida, so there is no longer a requirement to apply and pay for a temporary disabled placard.
