MrS keeps looking at them on the interweb - are they any good? Any recommendations?

One of my golfing buddies had one on last Saturday and complained of being to warm, he was well wrapped up as it was -2.

I had a jacket bought for me 2 years ago - - the arms were not heated but were too tight so I turned it into a Gilet
It takes a nice power bank has 3 power levels and under a waterproof coat gets really nice and toasty

I've seen the waistcoats they literally look like mine so I'd say they're worth it if you get cold

As a golfer, I would say, get a gilet one rather than a jacket with arms. Then Mr S can select the over jacket, maybe waterproof, and not have too much restriction around the shoulders.
My husband has heated gloves, they are very toasty - not for golf though!

Julie got the pink softshell and I got the cotton in black. Very warm and recommend.
Also got mum and dad the black cotton so they can look twee! (y)

I have a heated oxford vest that I use when I ride in the cold. It works on 12v plugged in and four settings for heat output. Combined with heated grips, I can ride in -10degC as long as there is no ice on the road.
I’m trying to adapt it to power it from dewalt 18v pack. The dewalt jacket suppose to be really good but last time I checked it was over 170 quid.

I had one which ran from AA batteries, very effective but ate the batteries.

If stationary, like riding a motorbike, sitting on cold riverbank fishing, sounds good......but the most important aspect is conserve bodyheat, regulate ventilation......buy a well insulated jacket that maintains heat, down etc, and a means of venting we you are hot......my opinion only...

True, your body produces enough heat, the problem is losing it too fast. So you can conserve it with good insulation without extra heat. That is not cheap, however, and is not found in Sports Direct! I have a down jacket by Peter Hutchinson Designs (PHD). It weighs almost nothing and is wonderfully warm. Made in England too so I will shamelessly plug them. PHD keep a very small stock and may have your size in stock but if not they will make it. Special requests e.g. longer sleeves for the size, come included. Quality? When I ordered mine, they said that there might be up to 22 days delay because they were busy making a load of down items for Ranulph Fiennes' next Antarctic expedition. That's the sort of league that their stuff is in.

Don't believe the sizes on the Amazon ones, had to send three back before I found one to fit. A 50 inch chest can be anything from XL to 4 XL. The one I settled on and works well has zips down each side so in theory can accommodate a number of different sizes. Battery is separate, went with a 10,000mah, which is enough for my use, would probably need bigger if you need it on high all day. Mine also has 5 heat settings, most have 3.

I have the standalone Oxford waistcoat that runs off small rechargeable batteries. They last a couple of hours on low which is adequate on a motorbike with decent gear.

I used to use one on motorbike in Winter when commuting from Salisbury to London - never tried it from batteries (which was an option) as powered from bike but was absolutely amazing...

Years and years ago having ridden to an early morning meet up via the M6 on a winter rideout pillion, another Bird pilot unzipped his leathers and weskit and invited me to literally wrap my arms around him inside the gilet cos he was a bit hot. Blooming wonderful.

Clueless about the make, cos they were new on the market then.

I use a Kiess heated jacket on my motorbike, not cheap but brilliant for all year round riding. Lifetime guarantee and can be run off 12v or battery. Also available in a gilet / bodywarmer. Sizing is quite generous.

Like most things there are big variations in price and quality
One of my ex colleagues was never without hers in the winter
We could be outside for hours but usually without any pre warning and could involve a lot of standing about
