Anybody have the new 9 speed auto !

First trip away and needed to use levellers, only problem the new van won,t drive up them changed from auto to first gear still no luck I can literally push the accelerator flat to the floor and it just sits there (not for the faint hearted).

We have the engine management light on at the minute which is a faulty sensor (common problem with the new Fiat) but italy have very low supplies so have to wait 2 weeks, so dont know if this could be causing it.

So anybody out their achieved this task okay?
Why don’t you push the auto levelling button?

No problems with ours so far . Used levellers on last outing but thanks for heads up !

Sounds like the problem could be because the engine management light is on well I hope so and if yours is okay must be something simple or my crap driving style.

Come on folks, ramp or no ramp. Your saying you cant start off on a steep hill with the new 9 speed drive????

Seriously!

No offense just not.

It must be due to the fault the light is indicating. Does the vehicle drive normally on the flat or has it gone into limp mode?

I think it has some connection with the fault code light it will be interesting to see the outcome with that sorted, most autos will just pull from the off as yours will when updated (after all it is a week old)

As for the comformatic it is a totally different set up I have had one and they are fine, ramps could be a bit of a cautious approach due to the clutch position sensor but once aware of that no problems, I also had legs fitted.

Anyway hope you enjoyed your first weekend away in the new bus with no teeth Mark’s 🤣

I've got the 9 speed in my Malibu conversion. I had a similar experience reversing up my driveway which was due to having the handbrake on, it felt just like what you're saying, almost like the engine was revving but the van wouldn't move. Is there any possibility this is being caused because you've still got the handbrake slightly applied? Edit: I don't mean the handbrake is stopping the van moving but if you haven't fully taken it off then the auto box won't kick in, if that makes any sense!

I will check that but it reversed fine straight after, reminds me when I left my disc lock on my motorbike once didn't get far then either

Been there, done that, got the t shirt!!🙄😂😂😂

you don’t need too , that’s why you have 2 feet 👍

A miss spent youth taught me that 😏
Too much of a gamble for me left foot braking. Nearly wrote both family cars off years ago when following my brother to the airport. Accelerating up a motorway slip road he went to change gear in our dads auto Rover and slammed on the brakes instead. Luckily I managed to slow in time and avoid rear-ending him but ever since then my peg leg is always kept well out of harm's way when driving peddle cars 😲

For anyone thinking manual is the way forward, Auto,s are all mech/electric systems and to be told nowadays which sensor has failed, and the system protect its self is a bonus.
How quickly we forget, the left leg in pain, crawling along an French auto route on July the 4th, how quickly we forget, that lovely smell when you can quite get it up the ramps ,slipping the clutch.
who ever said three pedals are easier to work than two, Must be Jake the peg !
The ZF is very good, But there is a king of Automatic,s one example Pictured below .

I have one of these 9 speeders in my car, and it's absolutely wonderful!

Yours is a Mercedes Manufactured gearbox. 9G-Tronic . It evolved from 5G-Tronic to 7 and now 9.

the Fiat one is made by ZF and is a variant of ZF-9HP

We now have an auto Smart ForFour after having several Smart ForTwo autos and loved them, we changed to an auto MH last year and hubby loves it, I doubt we'll ever have a manual again as the autos are so easy to drive by comparison and leave you to concentrate on your surroundings rather than changing gear. This obviously has physical benefits as no more having to use your left arm to change gears or left leg on the clutch and as hubby has a dicky hip this has also proved to be a great help.

I'm on my third consecutive robotised manual gearbox which tells me something

Will it go up 4 inch levellers tho

For what it’s worth, my first RV, ‘87 GM 6.2 would pull up the side of a mountain, but wouldn’t go up ramps from standstill. nothing new under the sun

that’s an easy way to have accidents I don’t have to think about gear changes it just comes as something that happens it comes with experience, yes the clutch is a pain in traffic jams But when you have driven with double declutch and splitter gearbox’s vans now are a piece of cake

Why is it an easy way to have accidents? Its the opposite as you are able to concentrate on what's happening on the road etc more without changing gear although it does come naturally of course but if you don't have to do it at all one less thing to consciously, or subconsciously, think about ... we've had classis cars/campers in the past and although non required double declutch they weren't the easiest either (Commer camper, Bond Minicar).

Left foot braking , same with hill starts on the earlier comfofortmatic Fiat thing 🥴
I tend to use the handbrake for the steeper hill starts but it's a PITA because you have to lift the armrest to reach the handbrake lever.
