Another one for Grommet

I honestly don't. These days I can't even fix my Mum's windows computer.
I have not touched windows in well over 10 years. It has changed a lot since then.

I do know a little bit about internet security and scams though.
On that note , i'm hoping you can advise me on this one . I'm trying to set up a 4GLTI wifi modem dongle , for mobile broadband . My computer is an Acer Chrome book , which does everything i need , so i've never needed a full computer . Actually it's up for renewal this year , but it's only 8 years old .

Now the dongle is finding the local aerial , but failing to connect with my chosen provider , and the computer has connected to the dongle . However , i can't seem to access the manual APN address protocol , which i'm pretty sure is the problem .

As a chrome book is not quite a computer , which on the whole uses apps , as opposed to programs . Do you think this could be the reason i can't access the address protocol .

I am sorry only just seen this. I am sorry but I know absolutely nothing about Chrome books. They are based on the Linux kernel but then have a big front end applied that is neither Linux nor windows.

If they don't provide a front end interface to change something then I suspect due to them being fairly locked down you may not have much joy.

This may help?

Just re-read your post. Honestly for something that old I would suggest just using wifi and buy a cheap mifi router. Just a thought. You will be exchanging £'s for stress/frustration and time saved.

Thanks mate , and don't worry , as you can see i'm no better . Yep that's exactly what i suspected , it the reason i like it . Save a bloody fortune in anti-virus protection . The dongle is with my brother right now , so he can interrogate it on his machine , windows 10 . Trouble is the instructions are not on the clever list either . I have looked it up on U-tube , and what's been shown there , is nothing like i'm seeing .
for something that old

Well actually , the computer is up for replacement this year . The battery only lasts three hours now , and updates stopped last year . The present machine is hooked up to a Huawei dongle via 3 , but frankly it's bloody expensive compared to what i've been offered , on Giff Gaff . Basically twice as much data for a third the price , however i will warn anyone else who maybe pricking their ears at this point , it's no good for continental use . Roaming charges apply ! . My phone costs £6 a month , rolling contract for unlimited calls , text's , and 1gb of data . I don't need the data , because my phone won't connect to the internet , it's a 3310 . These smartphones wouldn't last the day , before getting damaged with my job , but then my battery does lasts 7x longer anyway .
I also prefer to remain fully mobile , i can get a signal pretty much anywhere . Certainly where i get mobile phone reception , and sometimes where i can't . Don't have to worry about keeping it charged either , as it uses the computer battery .
