Got a screw in my brand new all seasons tyres.

Good job I carry a spa....oh...er...hang on .....

Not to worry. I can't imagine it's too hard to get a travelling tyre fitter the day after a bank holiday to come to a camp site in the middle of nowhere.

Another item in my "no, you really cannot do without this" list of motorhoming necessities...

Nooooo.

Hope it’s sorted quickly.

You can get the goop from Amazon that is universal and can be used with any tyre compressor if you are stuck. I had a pump on next day delivery to the campsite.

Might be much easier and cheaper than waiting.

On the plus side, at least it’s this side of the bank holiday. A mate had one outside a garage on the Friday, no spare and tyre was wrecked. Three lovely nights next to a main road on a garage forecourt. :-(

I have just invested in a couple of rechargeable compressors to hopefully inflate soft tyres

Found out the one we have for the car which has to be plugged in, the cable doesn’t allow me to reach the rear wheels, could use the TV connection but I suspect it has a much lower fuse rating

Good luck getting sorted, we have just bought our first car without a spare at all, rather worrying, but covered by our breakdown service

Same happened to me in Folkestone while on the way to the Chunnel.

Kwikfit weren’t helpful but did direct me to an independent down the road who sorted it straight away with a repair. Phew!

If you are using the goo and compressor it maybe a good idea to keep. The. Engine ticking over the type use a lot of current to run and will soon take the edge off the starter battery which will the draw more current to run and possibly blow the supply fuse. Some are 10 amp some are 15 more than the tv socket can supply.

Hope you don't need a new tyre as you will likely need two as you are required to have two of the same on each axle in France.
Big screw in the side wall, I imagine it's a new tyre for sure.

Ouch, looks like it's going to be an expensive day for you. :(

They're now talking about having to tow it to a garage! I barely got in the site with the van. Chances of a tow truck getting in and then back out with me in tow?

Has anyone had the tyre sealant put into their tyres 'just in case'? I saw a recent YouTube video of the Slawa having it done. It seemed a sensible precaution.

We carry a spare wheel but I am thinking if just carrying the tyre as a weight saving exercise .... any views/comments?

A long shot I know, but are there any UK motorhomes in sure with a spare or that might run you to a garage with your damaged tyre.

If I was approached I would def be prepared to run you to the garage (unless you left a hostage with me .... 😁)

As featured on another thread, a Dynaplug kit might be a useful thing to carry in case of a simple puncture in the tyre tread. Side wall damage - new tyre needed.

https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/breakdown-cover.151022/

Has any Funster used Dynaplug, and was it successful?

I carry a cheap plugging kit just in case, but not had to use it to date.

Our levelling system can lift all wheels off the ground, and along with carrying a spare and a 48v cordless impact wrench, I'll do our own wheel changing.

Is the tyre hold any pressure if not to leaking to quick maybe you could drive somewhere, I’ve found Euromaster is best for big stuff in france

A bit late for you but I always carry a repair kit that you can plug nail damage from the outside, sometimes without even taking the wheel off the vehicle. Well worth carrying to get you out of trouble.

Do you have a link to the product? I might be able to get that faster than I can get a breakdown person to me, then I could just drive to the garage.

I think if that's true then it's ignored by most, I had a new tyre fitted on the A28 motorway in France last month, I now have 1 Mitchell tyre and a different make and tread on the passenger side rear.
Mind you the cost of 1 would have bought 2 in the UK.

Not if you move the 390 litres of wine to the opposite corner of the deflated tyre. 😏
By opposite corner of the deflated tyre (if it is deflated), I assume you mean opposite corner of the motorhome - I doubt very much you would waste such a valuable resource by moving the wine into the opposite corner of the tyre, though it does offer some amount of genius thinking as to how you move large amounts of alcohol from mainland Europe to the UK ....😁😁😁😁

Plenty here on amazon. I've used plugs on 4x4, cars and trailers for a number of years.

I've also seen them for sale in French supermarkets.

Look at this ...Benson Car tyre Repair Set - 27pc. I don't think it would seal the sidewall damage but if you could get one it might slow the leak down enough to get you to a Tyre shop. Ive used these hundreds of times with great long lasting success, although they are intended for damage in the central 3/4 of the tread area & you need air pressure in the tyre to help it seal, so you need an inflator of some type.

Bloody idiots, that would probably wreck the rim.

Turns out the breakdown people didn't tell the locals that it was a motorhome :) Local guy agreed with me that towing might not be an option. No one can agree on who should pay for the work (not the tyre, that' me of course). I've offered to pay for the lot just to get moving, that threw them all into a tiz, now I have no idea who's coming, if anyone, what my name is, etc.

Let this serve as a warning to anyone as daft as me (if such a creature exists) to not go on a 2,000+ mile adventure without a spare tyre & wheel.

I have got a jack, though, so I might be taking the wheel off and wheeling it by hand the 8 miles to the nearest (open) tyre centre...

Just got an update - the breakdown agent rang to say they will definitely be towing it (god knows how), followed 5 minutes later by the breakdown control saying they are definitely going to fit it on site.

Ooo, I love a mystery :)

Hmm...no one seems to actually have any suitable tyres. I wasn't expecting that.

Oh dear, this is proving more troublesome than I thought. And I thought it would be bad!

Not used a Dynaplug, but carry one of these kits, used it many times in the past on a motorbike, and a 4x4 truck with success.

It says for motorcycle use but works on other vehicles.
