Another dead Cab Battery post

*update* So, having tested the charged & "rested overnight" battery off of the vehicle, it was apparent that the battery was carrying voltage, but that its capacity was markedly diminished (under 60% available). I managed to source a Bosch S15 EFB 950CCA battery from a local Europarts outlet and once connected, I switched the key to power up the dash lights and then left it for a good minute before attempting to crank the engine over. Thankfully the engine caught the first time and every warning light extinguished straight away.

When we set off on our journey the following morning, it was immediately apparent that the Stop/Start system was functioning so much better than it ever had done. We could pull up at a junction, the engine would stop quickly, and it never once restarted either immediately upon having stopped, or before I made an attempt to lift my foot off the brake. Previously, I had been plagued with a very intermittent performance from the stop/start system with it seemingly having a mind of its own, starting at almost the same second it had shut down, despite a firm pressure on the brake pedal being applied.

I had mentioned this to the supplying dealership during the early months of ownership, but was simply told that the system requires so many factors to be absolutely spot on for it to work correctly that it wasn't a surprise to them that it was doing what it was doing. Clearly, the battery voltage/capacity was having a big effect on the system's ability to carry out the stop/starting process correctly :swear:

We drove just over 150 miles round trip and the engine management performed faultlessly throughout, so it does appear that we have dodged a bullet (until something rears its ugly head next time)

Glad you are back on the road, any reason for going EFB instead of AGM?, my understanding is that the AGM is a superior battery, are they not compatible with Fiat chassis?

Nedge, my mistake in stating EFB .... the battery that I removed from the van was an EFB, but the new Bosch is definitely an AGM - see picture below. When trying to source a battery local to me as we needed to be travelling the next day, there wasn't much choice, and I was pushed further up the expense chain in order to be able to secure something urgently. However, on reflection, even though the battery stood me in for £393.00, it has transformed the stop/start function at a stroke.

Hopefully your battery will perform for a good few years, take a look back at my post #7 for details of an excellent battery company that provide next day delivery. They also stock the S5 A15 at a competitive price.

I know, if we hadn't been needing to travel I would have loved to have paid the much lower price, but not knowing what time the carrier delivery service was going to be arriving for us was a major worry. I knew it was a high price, but my local collection choices were very limited, sadly. Hopefully, our collective information will help others be able to make an informed decision in the future.
