Another batch of cheap 3 broadband sims.

I made a new thread about this earlier but no one seems to have noticed, this is what I said

dont know if anyone else has had their data card delivered yet, but mine has come this morning, all good as far as I know but a puzzle for you , on the envelope it says value of contents £12.99, what does this meen is it how much they are in Switzerland.
Thanks, I hadn't seen that.

According to Wikipedia, Three doesn't have a network in Switzerland so I wouldn't imagine that they sell SIMs direct there. Also, the SIM packaging is for the UK operation. More likely, I expect, is that, as discussed previously, My Memory uses bases in Europe/Channel Islands for tax advantages.
It certainly looks like the prices include £10 for My Memory's expenses and profit.

Anyone any idea what this is all about.
@Minxy Girl especially?

Shh! It's a VAT fiddle. :) See this extract from a page to calculate import duties.

Look at the first of the notes, which says no VAT if the value is less than £15. An out and out fraud I think. So who is going to tell HMRC!

The website I used was this one. I followed a path using computer parts and peripherals to get to the page shown in the screen shot.
http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/
Ignore the reference to £32 in the screen shot. It is some sort of assessed value for duty. I input £14 from memory - the website above only allows you one free go so I can't repeat it. :)

Don't you start picking on me again Chaser ... or you'll have to chance your name to Runner!!! :sneaky:;)

I suspect as has already been mentioned its to get around the import duty rules.
Not picking on you at all, just thought you would know what it all means, and we might get a batch at half price(y)

A few will be groaning at the resurrection of this thread but just to let you all know that the Three 12 GB 12 month sim that I bought from My Memory via Ebay DOES work. Got a message on all devices that were connected to the mifi with the old sim in that I had run out of credit.
Simply switched the mifi off, removed old sim, replace with new sim, switched on and straight online. No Registration or anything else. Checked roaming was still switched on in case we cross the water.
Checked Data allowance and there was 12,228 gb shown.

As an aside, I have just received a 12month 12 Gig SIM from Mymemory for £21.95 which will do us for next year. Prompt and efficient service from them.

Yeah used mine for over a month in France now, never failed to connect anywhere, but did have a bit of a wobble in Spain, but it has connected in places where the phones had no signal, great.
