One thing to be aware of
If you tell them, say , 6k a year at onset and then have an accident at 5,000 miles but at 6 months.....they may be able to wriggle citing that you told them that you would have only have done 3,000 after 6 months

Many motorhomes are laid up for 6 months and do most of their mileage in the summer months.

Risk factor - higher mileage, on the road longer = greater risk of accident. Simple really, that's how insurance underwriters work, level of risk.



I think any insurance company who tried that on would quickly draw the attention of the Ombudsman - unless the T & P's stated proportionately over the year and even then they'd be on a sticky wicket methinks.

May be wrong but I don't think the chances of an accident increase with mileage, a bit like tossing a coin the odds stay the same no matter how many times you do it. There must be some statistic or its just a scam, they don't do it with cars.

They certainly do do it with cars. Try getting a quote for 25000 miles a year and 10000 miles a year. They will be different

Sorry I think you are wrong, there must be a direct correlation between mileage and risk. The longer you are moving in your vehicle the more the chance that you or someone else will make a mistake.

Really? If the tracker means the vehicle is recovered then the ins company don’t pay out, it’s that simple, so you get the policy cheaper as an incentive to save them money.

Why would they not payout? Only if you have been less than honest when completing the proposal forms would be my guess

I told my insurance company that I would be going over my limit. It cost me more for the admin charge than it did for the increase in premium.
I'm wondering if any compony might refund you for the distance you are under each year but think i know the answer to that one...

I took Badknee ’s comment to mean that if the Motorhome was recovered fully intact, there would be no requirement for the insurer to pay anything out ?

I have a 5k limit with Adrian Flux and I'm in danger of being OTT this year, so I'm thinking leave it late as possible in case something stops me going OTT (Illness etc.)

I'm also at risk of car policies interfering I've got two specialist cars with them, my Mini Cooper S, which is highly modified, so really can't go anywhere else, most insurance companies have a fit if you tell them it's got modified suspension full caged and six point harnesses. My other car is Porsche 911 (aircooled) .... nuff said.

I dread to think what my insurance would cost if I managed to loose my NCD.

Or you could argue that someone driving high mileage daily is far more aware, quicker reactions, expecting carnage any moment so is far more prepared to avoid problems?

The longer you are moving in your vehicle the more the chance that you or someone else will make a mistake.

I must be due one soon then as I'm in excess of a million miles cars/vans in my life & have managed only to cause accidents without any involvement

Just as an aside I seem to remember a case where someone stated they drove 8k miles per year & then when they had an accident the insurer stated that it was the 'total' mileage of all vehicles they drove that they were required to pay for ? Anyone else remember it ?

There is a case for that argument. If you could finesse the stats to see number of accidents against an individuals miles p.a. I'd bet the higher milers would be a lot safer.
But conversely that could also mean greater exposure to other idiots.

When my father taught me to drive he drummed into me that every other driver on the road was out to kill me so lookout and anticipation was prime. Good advice - in my long long years of driving the only incidents I've been involved in were caused by others. (I discount, of course 2 minor speeding offences - lack of attention, missed the b----y cameras!)
