We are thinking of going to Northern Ireland to get a pet passport for our little dog. Any suggestions of where we can obtain a cheaper Animal health certificate?. Our local Leeds vet wants to charge £240.

EU Pet Passport is a reasonable price at Abbeywell Vet, Folkestone. Can be done via Internet thru their site. Think it’s still £99 for initial application then price comes down for extra dogs and down again for following applications, had to use an AHC this time as dates were wrong on Pippa’s passport and the AHC was £69.
I think you mean the AhC not EU pet passport

Hello. For those travelling via the south coast to France, Passpets do the AHC for £99 .They have 2 surgeries, one in Havant and the other in Folkstone. I searched vets and one in Derbs quoted £250 for the AHC. when I asked why it was so expensive they had the front to say " because we can charge whatever we want " Turns out that they are part of a chain of vets some of which dont display charges either in the surgery or on their website. I wrote to my MP who sent my letter to Zac Goldsmith ( Lord) and DEFRA told me how to break the rules that they had set. My dog is Spanish and has EU passport but due to Covid we were unable to go to the EU to renew her rabies vax so DEFRA told me that next trip abroad , get her revaxxed over there and then I wont need an AHC again if her rabies vax is up to date. Dont get me started on the Brexit thing but it appears that pets are very low on the priority when it comes to negotiations with the EU...and the UK vets love it as it is another blank cheque that they can exploit

Hi and welcome to the Fun!
:welcome3:
PassPets in Havant and Abbeywell in Folkestone are separate entities, but they both provide streamlined AHC services at what have come to be regarded as ’low’ prices and both are highly recommended by those who have used them. (y)

Apart from those few vets who have opted to specialise in AHCs, I‘m guessing that most vets find them awkward and time consuming and prefer to ‘price themselves out of the market’ so that they don’t have to do them. Quite a few of us have obtained EU Pet Passports for our animals so that we are no longer tied to the expense and time constraints of AHCs.
