What vet

What vet did you use please?
I used Reed vets which are near Buntingford, but they will only do their clients, and there is a nine month waiting list to be a client.
I can understand why, what a ball ache. But we are now here in France, and have already spotted our first vet that we shall ask for EU passport, and rabies booster tomorrow am. Will let you know how we get on. This trip for us, is very much about getting the passport, even though AHC is only £60

But it will cost you £50 next time you go abroad, the EU passport will probably be cheaper ,even with a rabies boost, plus you can use it time and time again (y)

We lost our dog 18 months ago and I’ve been looking at the charities to rehome another. Impossible!
Some don’t want to know-because we live in our MH and don’t have a secure garden, others I suspect use the same criteria but just won’t admit to it!
Looking at the costs of getting a dog on holiday with us to Europe I’m not sure we can afford a dog anyway!
It‘s ridiculous looks as tho I would have to buy a puppy if I really want one and a puppy in a MH full time is not something I really want!
Wood Green is about the only charity that seem to care and that is probably because I’ve adopted from them before!
Adopt in spain as others have said. Tam Northernraider adopted 2 , a year apart. all come vaccinated, rabues etc.
Can I get an EU dog passport from a vet in the UK?
No
Do I still need an AHC if dog has EU passport,
No
Do I still need an AHC if dog has EU passport, do you need AHC to get into France or to get back into UK?
No
I thought I read on a thread recently that its no longer possible/difficult for you as a visitor to get an EU pet passport.
Yes someone said France was tightening p.Why? is any bodies gues as it is all money. no problems get one here.
I personally wouldn’t want the vet to give a rabies booster until after a good period, at least a year, preferably 2, as it’s not good for the dog.
It is a yearly booster here. All of mine have lived well in to double figures.
We are desperate to get a EU passport this trip as the
get one in spain

Yes my point exactly. We want a French dog passport, that has a three year rabies booster.

Thanks all for the info.
I don’t want to adopt from abroad.
I have been looking at puppies and adolescents. A 12 or 18 month old bitch is our ideal as it’s still young enough to be moulded into the dog we want but not a baby!
I‘ve answered several ads but it’s amazing how many people just don’t respond!
I will keep looking the right one will turn up I’m sure!

Since my original quote from my Vet I have contacted several others around the area and been quoted the charges below.
£90 each
£67 each
£132 each
£70 for 1 and an additional £25 for the 2nd.
Hi. I gave just visited Beech House vets in Warrington. Can you advice who in Warrington offers AHC for 67 or 90 pounds? I have got fown only to 150GBP?

It seems vets are jumping on the band waggon, two months ago £60, now £135 and guess what predicted to go over £200! If you know anyone in the EU and can get an EU passport seems a great idea! ( DC works for a vets that are well knowing for their low prices! )

Hi there, I’m in Warrington and need to get an AHC for my dog please can you tell me which vets quoted these prices please?

Bold Vets and Rose cottage Vets quoted £90 each Rees Vets did originally quote £90 each but have come back to me today and said it is now £250 each, I did get Beech House down to £250 for one and £50 for each additional. I have moved Vets now to Vets4Pets who originally quoted £67 each but have increased it to £213 for both. They are all increasing their prices and most of them say you need to be registered with them. Can't wait to get my EU pet passports for the dogs.

Yes my wife contacted the local vet and they quoted £250. Looks like the vetinary association or some such vet body has decided to recommend that amount.

I contacted Bold Vets yesterday and they quoted £120, I had rung around 18 vets in the Wigan and St Helens area and that was one of the cheapest . Many were quoting up to 250 and would only do it if you were registered with them. Found one for £115, the cheapest I could find. Its in Ormskirk. Booked it.

Have you seen this petition - Animal Health Certificate to Europe to be reviewed. Started by a vet, I believe. As for price collusion, the veterinary industry had the competition commission set on them 20 years ago over farm drug pricing. After that none of the associations is going to try to recommend prices for anything. However some of the corporate vet group owners may well have advised their practices what to charge (probably in order to drive the trade down the road, as Landy Andy says).

Just had an AHC done for Barney yesterday at Robson & Prescott at Morpeth - £130. Several other local vets suggested that unless we were registered with them already they would not do it, so we felt shopping around was pointless!

What vets is that please? My vet in Ormskirk doesn’t do AHCs so need to find another vet.

The Vet with the low quotes was Caerwys vets near Prestatyn however, you need to be registered with them and surprise, they are now not taking new customers on. I have found this with most of them.

Hi missmollie, I too am from Warrington and shopping round for a better deal, I am getting very frustrated with this. Are you able to list the vets where you had these prices?

Collected my AHC yesterday. Wow what a process. Everybody hates them. But at least only £60.

You will need a rabies vaccine to get a AHC so can’t go to France without a rabies jab, and if you do get a rabies jab, then go to France I personally wouldn’t want the vet to give a rabies booster until after a good period, at least a year, preferably 2, as it’s not good for the dog. We are desperate to get a EU passport this trip as the French are standing to clamp down on passport issuing and Monty is 2.5 years into his rabies booster, so it needs doing now anyway.
We have just got a French pet passport for our dog. 1/2 hour in and out, done. She now has a new French passport. It cost around €140.00 including Rabies inoculation.

Blimey! Prices are going up dramatically - they’re obviously cottoning on.

Please can you do a brief write-up about the vet you used in the ‘European Vets’ thread? Thank you.

Excellent! Please let us know the vet details once you have your passport. (y)
Got passport today with the rabies vaccine, as stated cost was 43 euros. Great team of professionals. They entered our address as camping Javea. OK with that. But the surprising thing was that they registered the expiry date and therefore the date of next booster as September 2024. Really, really happy with that. Here are the details.
