Totally agree with your last sentence Dave.
I get so annoyed when in 50mph average speed camera zones and all the foreign lorry’s go wizzing past because they know they’ll get away with it. They don’t give a flying fk about our laws.
I totally accept the logic of what you’re saying, Geoff - but after several weeks in France I am quite sure that far more (3.5+) vans are now showing the stickers than were last autumn. And if what I copied on post #11 about enforcement is right, I’m not sure I’d be inclined to tough it out!Well according to several reports on here, nor do many French about their own Angles Mort rules.
Maybe because they cannot see the logic that two vehicles of the same length, which can affect 'drag-in' on corners, may or may not be required to have the stickers, according to their weight.
Totally illogical. Maybe M. Gendarme may take the same attitude. The traffic cops will understand that point, but maybe a beat plod who is bored may not.
Re the Suction cups, we had them on for 85 days, during our trip to France. We lost one on our nearside when entering a dual carriageway from a rest area pouring with rain a lorry strayed into the slip lane from the carriageway kissing our nearside mirror, so I think the suction created pulled it off. Other than that all three were fine. All I did every 2 weeks or so was to remove them wash the suction cups and the van where they are placed. All was fine and back home with the van wash there is no sign they were there.
You obviously like unnecessary stickers lol so might aswell just put the angles mort ones on.If no-one sees what is on the back of our MH then they (redacted)!!
If your ordinary everyday folk actually had a say in what laws were created more might obey the stupid ones. As it is we don't which is why if you really open your eyes when out and about you will see many stupid laws being ignored by the masses on a daily basis.Mine have been on for 2 years!
If its the law of the lane why ignore / break the law?
I am sure people would be upset/annoyed if people came to the UK and ignored our laws
They gave a ridiculous amount of signsWas told by an Irish man many years ago that the signs there are only for tourists
Each to their own Northernraider. However, I am not sure that everyday folk living externally of a country should have a say in what another country's laws are.If your ordinary everyday folk actually had a say in what laws were created more might obey the stupid ones. The last month in Ireland I've noticed it's a country that loves a sign banning stuff and it's a country where most folk ignore all the signs
It seems that governments will insist on trying to dumb down peoples common sense repeatedly, I just refuse to comply with a lot of it.
There's a saying " when in rome"Each to their own Northernraider. However, I am not sure that everyday folk living externally of a country should have a say in what another country's laws are.
Whether they are stupid or not in my opinion, if they are the laws of the country I am visiting, then I prefer to abide by them and give a good perception of the British traveller / motorhomer.
But as I say, each to their own - that's just me
I agree, I have posted the resulting legislation in French and English previously and there is no mention of it only applying to specific locations, in fact it creates exemptions for highway/motorway maintenance vehicles and forestry/agricultural vehicles (and those where it is physically impossible for compliance) which rather kills the 'urban' myth. Taking the legislation at face value anything over 3500kg anywhere needs them unless exempt as per above.Think you’ll find that they apply throughout the country - although there was talk at the draft stage of limiting the requirement to towns, that limitation doesn’t appear to have made it into the final law. Unless anyone can cite where it is in the actual law, of course - this has been asked before on here (& elsewhere) and no one has ever shown where it says the requirement only applies in towns, to the best of my knowledge.
I assume the 3500kg limit for use of Angles Morts stickers is based on log book plated weight and not actual running weight. Reason I ask is that I’m plated at 3650, but run at around 3400 when fully laden
Seems a bit drastic to cancel a trip because of a couple of stickers, and they are no good in a cupboard, the cyclists will not see them and you will not be insured.Misplaced my AM Stickers, thought they were in a cupboard somewhere in a safe place in the Motorhome but cannot find them.
Must now remember to cancel our upcoming trip to France.
Mine have lived in a door pocket. There's no way I'm putting them on unless forced by some bored gendarme.Seems a bit drastic to cancel a trip because of a couple of stickers, and they are no good in a cupboard, the cyclists will not see them and you will not be insured.
With the thick skulls of some of these French you'd need more than 3.5t to crush themThe really daft aspect of AM is that it applies by weight and not physical size. My 6.4m Ducato is plated at 3500kg so no AM are required, but if I up plated to 3950kg then AM are required. The danger to cyclists etc is from the physical size of the vehicle and it blind spots ; up plating doesn't increase the physical size at all and the blind spots are exactly the same! Don't we just love the French.
BTW : Boris and his gang made us ditch our GB plates in favour of their new UK requirements. I have my official Crit Air sticker on the windscreen which was issue by the French government - what nationality does my UK van have on this sticker - You guessed it GB ....
Knock a cyclist off and kill them you will be up swanny without a paddle regardless of have sticker in the do. And I hope you have a deep pocket to pay for compensation because the insurance company will not want to know because your vehicle is not in a legal state for the French roads.Mine have lived in a door pocket. There's no way I'm putting them on unless forced by some bored gendarme.
Just read through the thread and unless I’ve missed something regarding insurance ( not exceptional in my case )Knock a cyclist off and kill them you will be up swanny without a paddle regardless of have sticker in the do. And I hope you have a deep pocket to pay for compensation because the insurance company will not want to know because your vehicle is not in a legal state for the French roads.
Any British insurance company that believes a sticker on a van could cure the stupidity of a cyclist would not win in court.Just read through the thread and unless I’ve missed something regarding insurance ( not exceptional in my case )
then I’m pleased someone has pointed this out.
If your in any form of accident the insurance company I’m sure would want to know if the stickers where on.
Ray
You put the stickers on before calling policeKnock a cyclist off and kill them you will be up swanny without a paddle regardless of have sticker in the do. An
And what about the witnesses? You put the stickers on before calling police
It has nothing to do whether a UK insurance company thanks the stickers are right or wrong. The French government does and a UK insurance company would not go against that.Any British insurance company that believes a sticker on a van could cure the stupidity of a cyclist would not win in court.
