We have finally got a Revolut card for back up and to us for the Fulli toll tag as this would not accept our British bank.
We both have Clarity cards for Europe normally

Revolut is all sorted and set up with Fulli app. They have taken the 1Euro test ok and we have Revolut app and card.
I have transferred £20 that shows on the app also the delivery fee and Fulli check. So far so good.

So how does this card work?

Do you have to transfer money on to the card before using? If I transfer £100. Will it stop working at £100? (prefer this preloaded option)

Or do you get a bill once a month like a credit card? I hope this is not the case as I was hoping for a safer more limited card for use in Europe

Do you transfer on to card in pounds and it transfers it automatically when used with the exchange rate at the time?

Just trying to get an idea of what we need to do to get more out of it than just paying Fulli toll

Thanks in advance

My Revolut account does not give me credit. You can only spend what's in the account. There may be other types of account but I'm not aware of them. We can also transfer between currencies easily, usually at pretty good rates.

I've never spent in a currency that does not have enough in it, so I can't say whether or not they automatically transfer if you have enough in a different currency.

It's all done thro' the app.
You load your Revolut card with sterling. Once set up this takes seconds. You can then exchange sterling for other currencies. You can do this manually where it is immediate, or you can set up an exchange to trigger when a specified rate is reached. As long as you avoid weekends for exchanges they are fee free. My Revolut card has permanent £,€ and $ balances.
I never have more than about £1k sterling equivalent.
There are no paper transactions !
You could also have a look at Wise - I use both ...

It is a bank account.
No money nothing gets paid.
You can pay money in like wages, pension etc Or you can transfer when you want. If you transfer in pounds it will sit there in the pounds account .You can exchange it ypurself in to a euro account as & when you want if the rate is good. If you do not & pay in euros it will take it from the pound account at the current rate.

We use Revolut and put some money on it and then watch for the best rate and then change to euros but if the euro amount on card isn’t sufficient for the transaction it will take the whole amount from Sterling.

Worth also noting that Revolut are not licensed (or is it approved?) in the UK, so your money does not get the FSA protection (£85k). For this reason I do not leave much money lying in the account.

Sounds like that is what we want. No money in can't use.

Do they give a good rate on the day use? Our Clarity card are good in that respect

to my knowledge it is the market wholesale rate & is rarely bettered . As said don't exchange at weekends .
I think there is a small % either side of market rate now, or certainly seems to be on my standard account but not sure about any paid ones.

Seems like it's good for taking advantage of good exchange rates when not away without having to have cash.

Will see how it works next week. Hopefully means we will carry less cash and alternative cards when away

Just be aware that there are limits to cash withdrawl from Revolut (depending on the type of card you have) and it's odds on the ATM operator will charge you. We normally travel with €500 stashed away somewhere in the van ...

Only card I have now, have it in my phone so just tap and pay😁 what I like about it also is if I want to go back to a certain shop or restaurant just look in the previous payment bit and it will come up with a map of where the place is and you can easily find it again.
It’s a very clever card to have

Wow..., we travel the same as in the UK, around €50 to €80 in cash.

Cheers
Red.

Not linked to phone yet but will do.

Also just seen a little card at the top right of the app screen. Single use card.

That seems like a very good idea when your not sure of the place

Exactly as I do. jumartoo has a Revolut account also....but I think she must have forgotten her PIN number....

You can only withdraw £200 worth of cash per calendar month fee free. Not a problem in most countries now but USA do like their cash where tipping is mandatory really. It’s why I got a Starling card years ago as that’s £300 per day. Nick has Revolut as well mind you.

We’re in Spain at the moment and everywhere takes cards but if you never pay with cash you don’t accumulate any euros for those pesky washing machines or the odd tip. The Spanish never used to tip but even they seem to now a bit more.

I also set up a sterling and euro savings account on revolut. So when we're finished on a trip I put the money left on revolut into the 2 revolut savings accounts until next time. Interest rate isn't great but it's something and takes minutes to set up.

I is un poco Español, I always leave a tip...if it's worth it...🇪🇦👍😃

Yes it is
I use that one a lot for internet purchases (y)
Problem with that is many now do not accept them as they want your details & for 'you' to be able to click & pay next time without inputting details ,so they say.
Isn't that the same as the "single use" card ?
No.There is a "single use virtual" card & a "multi use virtual " card This has the same details continually & you just freeze it after each use.I used to have this .No idea how ? Not even sure if it is still the same?

I’m very happy to tip, I’m not complaining. It was an observation that’s all. More to do with the need for cash really. In the UK it’s easy when you pay by card as the machine is often set to ask if you want to leave a tip. Assuming of course a service charge hadn’t been added already!

Interesting.
Is that from any bank ATM or just certain ones. France and Spain in particular

Don’t think they give the best foreign exchange rates, bit like banks.
If you are buying a fair bit the saving can soon add up😁

Halifax Clarity rates are as good as Revolut but obviously you can only use it for payments at current rate.
