An “Ordeal”

difficult for you Bluemanc100
your wife just wants to be pampered, hard in these times and difficult in a motorhome.
Has she any idea of what would improve things for her? no cruise/luxury hotel answer allowed.
Do hope it goes better this time for you both.
I think she'd prefer to visit the same places e.g. Harris and Skye next trip in the car and have a real roof over her head..... As another person said it's not for everybody

Just a suggestion - we use some campsites near us, where you can order takeaways and get them delivered to the pitch. Or, some evenings they have a mobile pizza business or a fish and chip van. The OH doesn't want to cook "on holiday" so by default preparing a meal is my job. Which is why she prefers takeaways ...
You can pretty much get anything delivered now with just eat.

Try sites like Knaresborough or Cromer which have on-site restaurants/bistros. At the moment they are doing just take aways due to covid but it gets you out of doing your own cooking. Another option is to prepare your own food in advance and freeze it then just defrost and pop in the oven when on site.
We also like cruises and hotels but can't afford or want to do them every week or month so the mh let's us do something all year round plus we really enjoy it.

Most women I know that are in a relationship and don't like motorhoming, it's because of lack of privacy and space in the bathroom, (toilet/shower).

My wife is paranoid about covid and will not have takeaways or restaurant meals so its lucky she's happy cooking.

Don't sell the motorhome. Leave it outside the house and wait. There is a chance that as the second wave approaches and tighter restrictions are reintroduce, you and your wife , like the rest of us will spend weeks looking out the window at the motorhome just wishing we can go somewhere.

Do what is best for you (in other words what she wants) if it is not making you happy don't do it. Pointless having it parked up turning green (I find this so sad) when you could have more suitable adventures with the cash Prices are good at present how many hotel nights will it get you?
Do what is best for you both and enjoy yourselves. Good luck with whatever you decide.

This was our train of thought too... there is bound to be a second wave when we get into winter and as I said earlier it doesn’t owe us anything... I need to get a Habcheck done so I just need to decide on whether to use Habcheck who did the last one or Spinneys, our nearest service centre

I have been trying to think when reading a few threads and posts what 'ping ping' meals could be.

When is the 21st Century due?

Geoff
you missed it mate it was last year 😂 😂

Have you thought of something like Hello Fresh boxed meals for when you are away? Each meal comes with all the ingredients in a bag with a recipe card, which even my husband (an oven chips & pizza cook! ) can follow. You could then just follow those instructions & would know what you were having for each main meal - no decisions to make.

We had a motorhome for a number of years. I loved it, all the packing into tiny boxes, the challenge of cooking and the chance to just follow hobbies. We had had loads of fun as caravanners with the family. However, husband Derek was not so keen, the driving could be an ordeal, the toilet arrangements and related chores. He suffered for my sake and I love him for it.

However, since parting with it a year ago, we have discovered Greene King hotels. They offer good discounts - 10% off, 20% off meals and 7 days for the price of 5. We chose them because they offer dog friendly rooms. There are, of course, other hotel chains and maybe give some of those a try before you decide to sell the motorhome.

We had gone to the added expense of buying a toad so that we could explore and probably should have stuck with a caravan to use as a base. The way most Funsters seem to use their vans is more spontaneous than we could ever be and we only ever went abroad in it once. I now believe our motorhome was an expensive mistake, except we have made many friends that, on our own, we would never have done.

There are so many ways to motorhome, I'm sure you just need to find the right one.
We like most types and switch between them. We do unplanned go and find a nice pub or restaurant to stay at trips. Wild camping trips. Small sites and occasionally big Haven type sites out of season.

One of the reasons I like the motorhome so much, is that I have all my own stuff. For example, my own bed/bedding/pillows. Now, more than ever before, I appreciate my own facilities and I really wouldn’t want to be in any other sort of accommodation.

Under normal circumstances, when we go away, we like takeaways, pub stop meals, and restaurants. There are many opportunities to eat without cooking. In Spain we eat a lot of salad with perhaps some seafood and crusty bread.

Before we go away, I fill the motorhome with food. We have plenty of things in store like tins of soup or beans. I also pack crackers and cheese and fill the fridge and freezer with salad, pork pie, ham etc., so I can rustle up a simple meal.

We use our motorhome all the year round and it’s brilliant to get away, whenever you want to.
