Who knew..

Two fantastic engineering feats…

The Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel.

We had the tour of the Kelpies which was so informative.. 34,566 pieces of steel, no 2 pieces of cladding the same..,

The second was the biggest boat lift in the world..the Falkirk Wheel.. brilliant!

Is the Chinese one a lift or a lock?

Looks a hell of a size boat for a lift? 🤔

Yes it is a lock but they define it as a 'device for lifting boats' (I don't make the rules 😀) more interesting ones in Europe though 👍 close to Streppy is the sloping lift at Ronquiers that has just had a massive overhaul, also a sloping one at Arzvillier in north east France.

But we'll always have the oldest at Anderton 👍

They're only 70 footers the maximum size for Narrow Boats
But that doesn't look like a narrow boat in the bottom of the lift in the Chinese picture? 🤔

Edit: Just seen post above, perhaps you should? 🤔

Parked at the Falkirk Wheel now, and just walked to the Kelpies and back. Two amazing sights, the wheel in particular, is incredible!

Overnight stop facilities here are great too!

Fairly certain there is no size limit. Have a look here on the booking in / pricing.

You can see the motorhome overnighting area in a picture above or in Google Maps below.

Walking to The Kelpies is about 1.5 - 2 hours along the canal bank tow path but I think there is still a bus running between them that takes about an hour.

You might want to consider parking overnight at Kelpies, you then get the view at night and then drive to the Falkirk Wheel in the morning as we did.

I could be wrong (as usual!) but I think there is a size constraint for overnighting at The Kelpies.
Also not sure if there is still the boy racers problem?

We did the wheel and the kelpies 2 years ago. We stayed at the Rosslyn campsite, 50m from the famous Rosslyn Chapel which is also amazing.
Apparently it was a complete wreck till a certain Dan Brown wrote his book about it and then the tourists and money flooded in. All three are within a very short driving distance.

Likewise the company that built the Kelpies, near Leeds, has recently gone into liquidation. What a shame for British engineering.

Wheel fantastic. Unless it breaks down with you on it!!
That sounds great to me, sitting up there in your narrow boat, having a nice cup of tea, eating your sandwich while enjoying the view.
What's not to like? 😄

No boy racers and we have a 7.8m MHome.

I looked on there website and size limit is 8.5mtr we are 9mtr.
I thought I'd seen it somewhere.
This from The Helix where you overnight park for The Kelpies.
Click the Overnight Parking tab.
Says 8m so not quite the same as noted by Mikey RV

And they're Scottish! Who knew the country that made half the world's boats could do that!! 😃

Good plan. It can get pretty draughty round those metal horse heads.
