We have just looked at one of our favourite sites in Dorset, 'Freshwater Bay ' at Burton Bradstock, it is a lovely site and we have enjoyed many a weekend there with out G/ Kids, however, to go there BEFORE Easter they want £55 per night.......... I have refused to pay that price ............. what do you recon ???

Looking at the site, seems a fair price if you want the facilities and location.

Hate hotels, prefer my own bed. No pockets in a shroud. Book it

Just crazy prices that people are sort of just accepting as the norm now and yet we keep getting these programs on the telly showing how you can live for far less.
Folks keep moaning about low wages but at the other end they just throw it away.
My grandson started another job a couple of weeks ago where he had to find his dinner as he is out on the road, he started off having a Tesco meal deal every day, but then suddenly he thought he could maybe do this cheaper, so he now goes to Tesco at the weekend and buys a loaf and some stuff to put on it, and gets almost enough for the week at the cost of one days meal deal.
That’s what I have done most of my life. The quality of sandwich shops, fish & chips and takeaways is terrible. I don’t mind paying, but when I bought a meat pie in Liverpool 20 years ago. Found it filled out with stale bread cut up. I rarely bought anything since.

One of my nephews was grumbling to me some time back. He was “skint”. Asked why with his terrific wage, he just said, I just am.

I sat him down and explained how he could pay my mortgage and have money left.

He Leaves his house At 7am. Commutes to work, buys a bacon sandwich and ten lambert. Lunchtime it’s the full monty, followed by an afternoon snack.

Worked out his daily spend was, £20-£30 plus commuting costs. £600 a month. Add his SKY package, his take outs in the evening, meals out with family at the weekends. Pushing £1,500 a month.

I talked him into a car share (4 blokes in one car). Breakfast before he leaves, give up smoking, take a packed lunch. Do some home cooking between you.

Minimum save £600 a month, bank what you can.

Only things he’s managed are, vaping and the car share where possible .

Still skint. But bought his daughter a pair of “balenciaga” trainers for her birthday, £750

Book the campsite

Is it not popularity that drives the price..?

The number Caravans and Motorhomes on the road lately have massively increased - the expectation this year that numbers will drop does not appear to be correct.

Perhaps a case of "Those that can will .... and those that cannot make do". So stuffit .. we will have to make do with second best yet again.

The thing is though most of the time we are not talking about second best, we can do what we want to do in our van for nothing apart from parking, we just don't need the other stuff that we are being made to pay for.
Give us a bit of grass a tap and a drain and that is all we want, we in fact only need the tap and drain about every 3 to 4 days.

We are of your mindset, which is why Aires and Stellplatz suit us fine.

Even in UK we can find places to park without disturbing anyone, then go to a private site for an hour and drop them a few quid for services which seems to suit both parties well.

Market forces. I don't think a business will last very long if no one buys their product. If demand goes up, so will prices. If you cannot afford the price you will need to go elsewhere or consider changing your hobby.
Travel Lodge for £55?? I'm not sure I'd want to go there. Last time I used one (in France) it was over €100.

With most sites you are paying for a facilities block with unlimited hot/lukewarm water. Since 99% of us have en-suite facilities you end up paying for something that is not needed.

We went to haven mablethorpe last week £9 a night all in, but apart from the first afternoon when we we went for a drink and a look round, we never went near the amusements which is not really what they want, they want the pubs and stuff full of kids spending.
We were there years back in a static. Worst "holiday" we ever had with unsupervised kids next door having a party every night. We complained and it went quiet for about 20 minutes .... a few days later we found our car splattered with eggs and flour (given that I am coeliac that was a huge issue). Never been to Haven anywhere again.

Well just to put the other side, there were very few kids, all the staff were very friendly, and it was as quiet as the grave.

I cant believe the prices some families pay to stay in a static caravan in high season, watching the caravan holiday programme (between adverts) on Channel 5 last night, it looked very much like the holiday from hell to us, but each to their own I guess, especially if they have kids along with them and want entertainment in the evenings, with one hour queues to get on the water slide.
The two parks mentioned were fully booked, not a pitch left over the 6 week summer period, they even had a problem parking the cars to keep the roads outside clear!

I think especially from now on, when the increased energy prices and cost of living hits home, most people will have to rethink what is affordable to them, without leaving them with increased debt.
I think most of us have a price in mind for certain things in life, whether that's campsite fees, meals eating out, even take always, even good old Fish & Chips. We haven't had a take away in years now, as I look at the prices and think about the cost of buying our own prime ingredients, but then I like cooking at home, and have a great store cupboard of herbs, spices, & chutneys
We were warned recently on the news about the cost of Fish & Chips going up, well I have witnessed this at our local very popular take away, cod/haddock & chips are now getting on for £15.00, more if you want a large fish & two portions of chips.
It will no doubt be £20 by the end of the year, with increased gas prices, and fish prices, it is now getting as expensive a fillet steak.
No doubt the majority will continue to swipe their smart phones to pay, but we certainly wont, like many things, we have a choice and we chose to do without, and cook at home.

I've been robbed. It's just cost me £10.50 a night.

How Much!
I thought our chippy was getting expensive, went down there last week they had put their prices up again 2nd time in 2 months.
OAP Cod & Chips now £5.90, 70p less than a normal portion only difference is a few less chips still more than I can eat & wife can only manage ½ of the huge piece of fish.

But who wants an OAP cod - aren't they a bit tough and dry?

Haven have closed their campsites at 2 sites in Norfolk, clearly better ways than campers to generate income. 3adults and child prices at over 400 last year, I didn't go but went in October when much cheaper.

Good point Lenny, never thought of playing the OAP card, but I would guess its only at certain times and days of the week, and if you eat inside, maybe, will suss out next time.
But fish & chips went up for the 2nd time in a month last week prices were:
Cod/Haddock medium £5.95, Large £7.75
Chips, medium £2.20, Large £3.20.
Queuing out the door on a Friday/Sat night, I have to wait while my Haddock is cooked fresh, so I hear the orders placed by many, surprised at the number of people ordering curry sauce @£1.50 to go with their F&C's.
PS: was Scampi £8.00:eek:

We had a gluten free haddock and chips and a normal haddock and chips at Rick Steins takeaway restaurant in Padstow last week. It was £22 and the best we’d ever had.

Y
I would balk at £55/night.
The most I have paid is about £28/night at a CAMC Club site.
I try to use CL's generally.
You have already paid a pound a night for every night of the year though in your subs.
