As of today, 23/8/22 minus a few weeks! ( deposit paid, awaiting collection)
Good Evening

I’m looking for information and opinions on a driveway security post or similar. We are considering keeping our motorhome on the drive instead of £60 a month storage.
Would like some kind of lockable structure that goes into the ground?
Or would you suggest another method of security, at a similar cost. We already have a steering wheel disk lock.
Your thoughts are invited!

Thanks

Hi Phil,
We had installed from Bollard Security Ltd., two Heavy Duty AntiRam S14 670 Telescopic Security Bollards, Lift Assisted, on our drive, which we were informed would stop a truck if need be. They were installed within 4 days of order being placed, payment after installation. First Class service, we would recommend them without reservation, they operate throughout the country. It provides great peace of mind when we are away - always use them even when away for ten minutes from home. Easy to manage.

I think posts with padlocks are a good visible deterrent but they are only as good as the padlock! So if fitting one of these get the best padlock you can.

When i had my salesground we used autopa concrete in heavy duty loops with armoured chains and padlocks around the chassis , we used to cast them in a 1metre square of concrete so impossible to get out they could not get to them to easily cut . I still have 2 new ones when i get time I will put them on classifieds.

Use mind practically daily and always worked very well. I have even driven into it a few times.

I didn’t want one with a hinge as weak point, didn’t want a raising one as you are submerging it into wet surroundings and that isn’t going to be good for it.

Just got a bulldog tiltable post, except have welded 10mm rods underneath with fake nuts on top. All chemfixed down then a oxford motorbike lock. Also wind down rear steadies just enough so they will spark like bonfire night to make it stand out a bit !!

Always worth having some sort of reminder in the cab to remind you to collapse the post before driving off. When you're in the driving seat you almost certainly won't be able to see the post. I've got a small upturned Tupperware pot jammed on top of the gearstick to remind me.

I thought that £101 for 5 was a very unlikely price so probably a scam or poor quality. Then I realised it meant £101 EACH as a quantity discount 🙄

Had thought about a security post on my drive but am uncertain where the services are (water, gas and electicity). It would just be my luck to hit one of those when excavating the hole for a retractable post

You could hire one of these to locate the cables and gas etc. I think they're pretty accurate now and what are used by highways contractors and surveyors.

I was told always drive into any parking space forwards.

Having to reverse out makes it more difficult for the scroates. So, they will go find an easier target.

Also suggested to put the towing eye into place with a chain to something solid.

Thanks for that. Guess that’s what they use to mark up the highways. Do they work for plastic water pipes?

They do, but not out of the box. You have to insert a fibreglass/copper conductor in the pipe to enable detection. You can use a stopper and a ground microphone if you know you have PVC pipes, but I suppose it now all becomes a bit of a job :cautious:

Pipe work to my house is the blue plastic stuff. Perhaps I’d better get a water dowser in to chart where it is!

Good Morning
Final update on our security posts, as already mentioned ordered from Bollard Security, initial call and spoke with the chap who actually owned the company, that’s always reassuring.
Arranged a fitting day that suited us, a week later.
Good communication from fitter, a few days before and on the day keeping us informed of schedule.
Job completed in about an hour or so, fully explained, all cleaned up. Very impressed and can fully recommend.
Many different options to choose from and no pressure selling.

1 Goldschmidt rams coded, cutting hydraulics has no effect! Must get wheeling nuts with this!
2 plug in electric cable to garage external socket, Not to fiddly but takes time for thieves
3 phantom alarm and tracker imoblister, plus Ring camera doorbell and our floodlights
4 perhaps the best but block it by putting a car right in front of it!

I have 2 stainless steel telescopic security posts they cost £400 each heavy duty type hence heavy to lift up/down with a quality lock. Plus Clutch Claw and a Milenco Commercial Steering lock which is longer with a Police recommend lock.

Something under £720 should do the trick (12 months storage cost).

I keep mine at home on the drive we have steering lock bar and a thing to lock the acceleration and brake pedal but also a tracker we can't even get the end of the road before someone rings if we forget to switch the card on they would stop the engine if I wasn't driving it

Why not just take one drive wheel off?

I presume apart from oportunist thiefs, they case the joint and come prepared even with 4 wheels for the right van.
