Almeria Camping Clampdown

I don't think it's just Morocco. We were up for flying somewhere further; Australia, Thailand, south Africa etc but nowhere would have us other than Spain.

I fully expect next year to be back to normal, the only issue being the ramifications from this year.

We spent a part of every winter from 2005 to 2015 with a caravan and then a 5'er at Camping Los Escullos I don't recall it ever being full and most of the time we were there from January to the end of March.
There were no official Aires at the time, the campsite in San Jose was always closed in the winter and the one at Las Negras has a steep and difficult access, certainly for our 5'er.
There were always a number of FLT's in the area, the beach car park at Agua Amarga, Las Negras, the beach at Playa Pelazo and the old market area at Cabo de Gata, only rarely were they moved on, the numbers were relatively small.
We have visited a few times in our campervan since then and noticed an ever increasing number of visitors, the new Aires at Agua Amarga, which will undoubtedly be the most popular due to it's location, Albaricoques and Cabo de Gata which is misleadingly named as it outside San Jose, will have provided some extra spaces.
I don't see how the local authorities could do much more to alleviate the problems caused by a huge unforseen, and possibly temporary, influx of motorhomes.
We love that area and have done some beautiful walks in the area, hope to visit this year in late spring when things have calmed down.

A lot of these motorhomes would have parked in the Valencia community but since the clampdown 🙄 that they caused have moved further south. 🤔
Javea had large numbers of free campers that stayed for months, and spoiling it for everyone, if they opened a camperstop a lot of these people still wouldn't pay, but probably use the facilities. 😁 Bob.

It is sad that some people abuse the system. There's plenty of room on the official sites here and for a few euros you can get service pitches. we are paying 22Euros for fully serviced pitch. I know the local budget end provides water dump and electric for 12Euro a night.

For me the deal is - I get winter sun and enjoy the local facilities and I fund jobs and financial security for locals.

We both benefit and the locals are friendly and welcoming.

It does depend where 'here' is. We have encountered quite a few full campsites and Area Campers this year. Both in Javea were full last week. the camper stop at Altea reckoned he was full for quite a few days when we were there. Most of the places in calpe were full. Jaca was full last night. People have said that they re queued outside Bolnuevo. Benidorm and Benicassim both had plenty of space
