Alloy Wheel Pitying !

I always wash my wheels with just good turtle wash and water ,no chemicals ,!
If Turtle Wash has no chemicals in it you could save money by just using water. 🙂 I think my Hymer wheels pitted without much help from chemicals. The replacement ones were different and much better.

Cliffy I like the idea of the Autoglym “hydrophobic” treatment, I’m no expert but all the evidence suggests microscopic chipping lets road sourced chemicals, acids, salts etc. on to the aluminium, and before you know it those same acids and salts are burrowing under the lacquer like a hoard of crazy moles. I am just about to have SHMBO’s wheels lacquered by a car painter chap I know. Then I’m definitely going for the Autoglym stuff, if it does “exactly what it says on the tin” then I should be ok in the belt-n-braces dept!! The extra lacquer is going to cost me around £25/wheel but we’re still negotiating!....... The cost of me installing a solar panel on his shed v the lacquering costs......;)(y)

Let us know how you get on as I bet there are loads of Funsters out there awaiting a willing guinea pig!!

Cheers!

Our wheels were like this after two years and replaced under warranty, the wheel pictured is the replacement after three years, taken a couple of days ago. All four were bad, this being the worst. I’ve now had them done locally in gloss black.
Just waiting for black wheel nut covers.
i had the same problem

Well all it looks like Fiat are going to refurbish my original wheels ,so is there something like Autoglym that i should put on after they are refurbished so as to make sure they dont go bad again after a couple of years ?.

Hi again everybody and now my wheels are going to be refurbished under warranty and open to suggestions as i am thinking of asking to have them powder coated instead of diamond cut so they wont go bad again ! so i question is what colours would my motorhome colleges have them coated as my motorhome is silver and would like something like a graphite grey ? What do you think ? .

My vote goes to a solid colour rather than diamond edge which are 'so last year'. Black or graphite would look good imo. You'd only wish that Fiat would pay for it.

I'm considering buying a set of steel wheels (maybe with winter tyres) for the winter months: salt and diamond cut really don't mix well.
