Alloy wheel corrosion

You can always go for black alloys. My Corsa Limited Edition came with them so no sign of such on them as they are painted by the look of them. I managed to buy for £45 on eBay one spare to match complete with a good tyre, very lucky indeed to get at the price.
But what about the bloke who’s corsa is up on bricks ? Haha

I am guessing here but I would suspect that the wheel nuts bite through the lacquer when tightened and the problems start from there. If so the the lacquering process appears to put pretty appearance above functionality.

The way the wheel nuts have rusted would sugest salt water was involved ...

You could be right but some wheels start the worming process. Whilst I don’t ‘know’ I suspect grit from the road will make a scratch on the lacquer giving micro damage which lets the water through. The Forces of air flow past a wheel I suspect will give high velocity particles a chance to do the damage in the first place and start the process of corrosion.

Rust can happen without salt, though it does accelerate the process.
Salt water is an electrolyte - and my wheel nuts have never been that rusty..

Once the lacquer coating of the diamond cut area is penetrated by whatever source, corrosion of the alloy wheel is almost inevitable.

In that case grease round the bolt shoulder and in the recess might help 🤞

Owned a Hymer B588DL since new with the notorious diamond cut alloys, one was refurbished at 12 months old under warranty the signs of so called wormholing were present on all 4 wheels at 18 months old. All start from a sharp corner ie a drilling, at 2 years old I asked my dealer to contact Hymer and replace them and asking to have the newer Goldsmitt wheels as replacements. Took months but eventually Hymer agreed and supplied a set out of warranty as a goodwill gesture on the understanding that changing the tyres over was to be at my cost, quite happy with that and local garage did it for me new phone valves, balancing etc for £15 a wheel inc vat.

This is a company with franchisees all over. I have used a local one on a couple of occasions and they have been excellent.

Do they refurbish in situ, or do they take the wheels off and remove the tyres?

MORELO try to steer customers towards alloys telling you that you need them for the spacing for air suspension, all you need is a spacer on the front though so I stamped my feet and good steel wheels (y)

And I think they look better than alloys :giggle:

Stainless like yours look great

If you took them to a proper refurb centre (Spit & Polish, Tonbridge for example) they strip off the lacquer, machine out damage and relacquer but as someone has suggested here, after stripping it could be possible to powder coat and finish as a traditional alloy (not diamond cut) and as pointed out these would still look very attractive but crucially last much longer. Great idea and seriously worth considering.

Take the wheel and tyre off, dip and strip, re-paint, replace and balance.
