All you good folk who have man`s best friend (Dog`s.)

We feed Daisy our Alaskan Shepherd two meals a day, not big but one in the morning and one when we are having our dinner...
And through the day she has little tit-bit`s OR a few treats not many and a Dentu Stick last thing at night to clean her teeth.... she seems to thrive on what she get`s considering she only has one hour to two hour walk a day... Monday to Friday...
Although the vet said she is a little overweight, but very healthy we put it down to lack of exercise...:frowny:

What do you give your little darlings, considering size and make of dog..??? 🐶🐺

Check the calories in the Dentu-stik. Some of these chews are very high in calories. You can get low calorie ones though.

Our 17kg Patterdale/Lab X has two meals a day. He's been on raw food for around 9 years as he had terrible diarrhoea on much of the canned food we tried him on. He currently has two meals of 160g a day.

It's a PITA when we go to France and Spain but we have found some good stockists. He won't eat fish based food!

He's 14yo now and makes do with a single afternoon walk of about 30 to 45 minutes, any longer and he turns back for home.... We used to do two half hour walks in the morning and evening.

Mia has 2 meals. One about 12 the other about 4pm. In summer, she's eats mainly eats in the evening. Give her dry dog food with a small amount of real meat on top. Her favourite is steak lol
I give her small treats, natures menu. They are small and soft. She's has lost a few teeth now. She's very fussy on treats and doesn't seem to eat anything else.

Why are you asking old-mo ?
Is Daisy seriously overweight ?

As they get older, they need less but don't understand, hence the "senior" formulations
It's easy to underestimate the number of treats/nibbles/snacks and their calories.

Luckily I have hyperactive greyhound:

...so don't have to worry so much.

For raw fed dogs the rule of thumb is to feed 2% to 3% of bodyweight per day.

If looking to lose weight edge down towards to 2%.

Not really that much overweight, the vet said she should be around the 30 - 32 klw..

And she is 35 klw........ We know it`s because we cannot take her for her three good walks a day, and are having to pay some one dearly to take her out for and hour or so..

But at £80-00 for five walks Mon - Fri it hurts us OAP`s.. :frowny:

Have you heard of borrow my doggy? https://www.borrowmydoggy.com/ I don’t have personal experience of it myself but I’m sure there will be people local to you who would love to walk Daisy, who maybe can’t have a dog full time.

There's also the Cinnamon Trust

A few years ago I tried to become a volunteer walker for them but they set too many hurdles - so I suspect the volunteers that do make the grade will be excellent & trustworthy.
