Yep, the techy world is already full of solutions to problems that I've never had.

I was watching an ad for a car on tv yesterday, it had that "auto reverse parking" feature that they were showcasing, with that and the thread the other day about teaching you to drive by braking instead of being in the correct gear for the speed you're travelling at, you have to wonder if future generations will ever be able to think for themselves ?
I'm not a Luddite by any means, but it seems there's a push for developing technology that deprives you of actually having to exercise your thought process ?

Thats why paper pen and pencil are good along with a book all good cognitive skills for creativity

Not much but I like saying "Good Morning" to my VA so it's radio starts streaming, the gadget charging sockets turn off and my media server turns on, for example.

Another example is there's a VA routine that powers up the AC unit mains lead, waits, then turns on the AC unit

Then there are voice commands to do the things I'd have to press buttons on the Harmony remote to do otherwise

As it happens, my central heating is not smart but I was out last night with a mate who has made his central heating (inc. radiators) smart and he is able to see how warm rooms are, have been & will be. Interesting but I won't add that to our house - yet

Well, yes, you don’t need a voice assistant but them linking to your home automation is only a part of the feature set.
Even for home automation, a VA simplifies that by bringing different systems together in one place.
Like, I’ve smart plugs from 3 makes, a Harmony Hub, and a Sonos audio system.
I could use all their separate apps to control them or ask the VA

There are many was of automating things at home, but as you start adding these things the energy costs creep up, Voice assistant is one technology I do not want not even apple Siri.

You do not have to go to the big conglomerates to bring things all together you can use Shelly automation as an example and get the things automated that you really need, there is plenty of alternatives.
