ALDI with Garmin

Went in Aldi in Cirencester just before 10am. Got hold of the manager, she said they had two TVs and 4 satnavs I had last TV and the third satnav.
 
I was lucky then, got mine at 09.00, they were in the welfare room not on display. The televisions had all gone. Bought a 550 years ago, no problems so thought I would stick with Garmin. Thanks for the heads up.
 
Hopefully someone will review the TV and give power useage as aldi doesn't quote that kind of stuff.
 
What do all these expensive sat -navs do that a hong kong fuey cheapo does not do ?
Also, why worry about map updates ? Not as though new roads appear all over the place ? It has always made me wonder.

Got a Garmin from Aldi, says Europe maps on box, but have not tried it yet. It's very big tho isn't it ? Could use it as a telly !

My daughter has just managed to get me one as we are still in Spain on our way back from Morocco.
Hopefully the Morocco maps I bought and downloaded for our current Garmin will work on the new one as the file should still be on the PC at home.
I look forward to many happy hours updating maps and downloading POIS (why do downloads take soooo long on Garmin?)

I bought one of the Chinese satnavs via eBay for £40 less than a month ago. I haven't even used it yet. You could buy it from me if you like.

Very kind of you but I have a mio that works ? Just never understood the map updating ?
 
Ok guys, firmware updated, maps being update as I type.
How do I transfer my favourites from my old nuvi satnav???
 
with 21 minutes to go on the update down load it stalled
Rang Garmin .. What version of Express you using sir ?

that is a year out of date.
But I downloaded it from Garmin this morning !!
You need to update Express..

Bugger !!!!!!

So updated express and started again. Currently three.5 hours to go ( again )

So folks, be warned
Download Express and restart your machine
Open Express and click on the gear wheel on the top bar towards the right
at the bottom of the new window click check for updates
let it install the Express update ( can be VERY SLOW ) and only then hook on your posh new Garmin and allow it to be updated

When you have finished updating disconnect the unit and connect your old unit to your computer

Go to my computer
Open the drive called Garmin
Cannot remember what the folder is called in the Nuvi but you should be able to suss it out.
Copy the contents of the folder holding your favorites and save on your hard drive.
re-attach your 760 and do the same, but this time copy and paste from your hard drive to the GPS

None of our local stores had deliveries of them ...rang customer services told southport had them ...all gone so went across to halfords for a price match they checked on their computer none in stock and said wouldn't be getting any more in as it is a discontinued model so maybe that's why aldi have them on special offer.

They had a total of five units.. By the time the doors opened there was actually quite a line, and everyone at the till behind me either had a gps or a telly.
I should think there were a few unfortunates who failed to score.. I told one chap to go to Halfrauds ( just over the road ) and they will price match.. Someone else over heard and by the time I left the car park a queue was forming outside the Halfrauds doors LOL !!!

Got it home and so far am REALLY impressed with the thing..

Called at ALDI at Priory Park Hull on the way to a meeting for a bit of shopping with wife,remembered offer when i spotted advertizement,I asked if there was any left ,Told i was first to ask so purchased at 1 .05 pm . Now in process of downloading maps ,free for life ,happy days.lol

Got one this morning 0905. They even had a pile of Daily Mirrors at each checkout so could get an extra £5 off as well. Dead chuffed! Will update, etc., over the weekend. Looks a good bit of kit. Even more chuffed to get a day fly fishing in too! That's supper sorted for the next few nights :D
 
Bought mind today at 4pm , mustn't be many motorhomers in Bolton ?
Did anybody buy a windbreak ? , is £30 cheap ?
 
We got a windbreak, good quality cloth one, thought it was worth the money.

Jaws I have auto-updating on my Garmin Express and when I started it, I when through all the questions to update the new device, two minutes later It gave up with "Garmin Express has been updated Restart now?!". Ithen had to go though all the questions again.
I had a smugg look on my face when I read your post:rolleyes:

My just finished download successfully, but five minutes into loading it failed. I thought I'll find the version of G.Express and ask you it was the same as you have, It was 3.2.27 (I think) but there was a note at the bottom of the page to say a new version is available "download now?"
Its now downloading 4.0.12.0 and gawd knows what.

As you say Bugger! Or as the grand daughter whose a Mog fan sys "Bother than Cat"

EDIT: new version is 4.4.13.0

popped in Aldis tonight, did'nt need the sat nav or tv, but walked away the the wind break, double step and the toilet chemicals :)
 
Has anyone managed to update without putting in a microsd card as mine says it is 99 percent full already? Any idea how big a memory i would need please on a micro sdhc card as they seem to go up to 64gb or more and i am confused and bewildered?
I am using a macbook air. Thanks
 
Got mine as it opened at 08.00, updated with no problems, just tried it out: very impressed. Off to France in the morning, looking forward to using it. Glad I looked in the forum, well done funsters.
 
Called Halfords for price match as it is closer to home. None in stock but would price match if I ordered on-line then took the ALDI advert to shop for refund. Guess what, no delivery and no store collection so if it is not in stock, tough. Obvioulsy more staff training required. Anyway, went to Aldi, none in stock; they hadn't arrived yet so they are holding one back for me (y) Should be in stock today or tomorrow :)

Thank you Jaws, I was hoping you would reply, I will have another go and then if no luck I had better phone Garmin.
 
With the latest Garmin Express mine has updated successfully overnight.
The tools section is asking if I want to load the favourites from the last backup of my NUVI taken on 22 Feb.
I think I'm added some new ones since then so will have a think about it over breakfast.

EDIT: its showing 95% full. Will order an SD card, apparently it will take cards upto 32MB
 
It was a lot simpler when Mo was a boy, only was Watling Street and Ermine Street, and it was a piece of cake if you're destination was Rome :LOL:
 
Bought one this morning. If anyone is local, Aldi in Chelmsford have several left.
Did the update (7.5GB!), but didn't need to install a memory card.
Very impressed with it. Currently just messing about with it seeing how to install POIs etc
