Hi,

Yes, its me again.

Our van has alde wet central heating.

Is there a secret squirrel way of getting this to work?

I was poking away at the controller today like a chimp trying to type Shakespeare, mostly without result.

Eventually got it to fire up, more through luck than judgement. But it took me 40 minutes. I kept getting a "no gas" error message.

I did all the usual tests. Gaslow on, electrics off etc I left the shore line in.

Its driving me crazy-bonkers as its not the first time I've had trouble firing it up (mind you we only got it on Saturday!). There was a lot of swearing involved...do m/h's have parents? I was mostly accusing it of not...

Please, some Heating Jedi-master tell me the easy path...

Stop! I think he's got it! It would seem that it was the fridge that done it. Drained the batteries that is. Left it on 12v without the engine on. I also had the "Tap" icon activated on the control panel, I wasn't aware it was a water boost function that turns the heating off for 30 mins. No wonder it was slow to heat up. I thought it had a differnet function.

I also visited the Alde website which is very good and now have an up to date English manual.

The batteries are fully recovered and all seems well, the system was purring away nicely this morning.

Panic over.

THanks for all your help.

Great.
That all fits the symptoms. You've probably not punished the batteries too much. There's much to learn about these things and every one is different!
Most fridges automatically switch to mains (EHU) if available, then gas if not. they don't usually take 12V unless the ignition is on. I'm pretty sure your fridge will have an 'Auto' setting. Set it to that.
Happy (warm) touring!
Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, got there in the end, not a moment too soon as I was about to get the jerry can out and summon up some old Oirish lightening and go for an insurance job!

You are right, there is a lot to learn, more than I had anticipated, despite all my home work the only real way is to do, fail and do again until enlightenment descends; it's all very zen.

Yes, I do have an auto dometic fridge, defaults to mains, then gas then 12v. I do recall now on Saturday night whils stumbling around in the cold and dark that it may have been the fridge giving out the audio alarm. When I powered don the main panel it went off; I staggered back to my scratcher in a daze! However, I did wonder earlier briefly about that anomly… we shall wait and see.

Next issue is the DAB radio...bugger just refuses to work! But that's for the techy section.

Hey - ho, keeps me out the pub.

This all makes for an interesting and amusing read!
Unfortunately I will probably in the same position this weekend as we take to the road for our maiden voyage (lots of rain in the south west) in our new (to us) Pilote 716.

When we left the dealer after a very confusing 2.5 hour hand over clutching a 1970s style attaché case weighing about 3 kilos I thought what have we done!!
Anyway can you all please be available from this Friday-Sunday....

Thanks

“Shore line” “scratcher”......... sounds like you may have been all at sea before this episode........:whistle2:

Pleased you got it fixed. Don’t know which dealer you got it from but if it was Hayes then a phone call to Chris Hayes often sorts issues over the phone

The alde does take a while to heat up.
Best to leave it ticking over than switching on and off.
As for the fridge running on 12v.
It sounds like quite a new mh and the fridge usually has auto energy selector.
So should onky be on12v when engine running. Have you set to auto??

You won't regret it once you master the controls - they are less obtuse than Truma ones. As with most new things in a van it all appears quite straightforward during handover but incomprehensible 2 minutes later. There are numerous videos on youtube which will get you ahead. Having had Alde for 2 years we would never go back. It is the difference between having central heating and a fan heater. The whole van warms up and there are no cold spots even with a low profile.

We had Truma on our old van and we never got the hang of that . We always had to refer to the instructions we had on a card. It was the gas symbol that always foxed us.

We also had a printout for our Truma systems which we had for 5 years and never got the hang of it. The Alde 3020 is far more intuitive - it's when you start using the timers and boost facilities it takes a bit more thought but the end results are worth it.

Achh..it's nothing that a bottle of wine doesn't put into perspective. I can be fairly sanguine about these things, extra jumper on, worry about it later, for it's wine-O'clock and I have better shite to be doing. My only real concern was that the unit was working up to par. I only have a 3 month warranty on it so I want to make absol-bloody-lutly sure everything works as it should.

I even confirmed the solar panel was working today. Not bad considering the weather. I put a meter across the terminals and there was a 0.2v increase in the batteries after a small interval! Whoohoo! I think the second coming will have been and gone afore they charge that way, but at least they work.

I appreciate all the help. The manuals are good, you-tube is useful and this site has earned its £15/annum subscription a thousand fold already. I give it a sound "HUSSAR"!
