Daft question probably, as the Alde system works off both gas and electric, do you have to have water on board , sorry first time using this system, I know when you drain down I think they said 10l in the Alde boiler tank, so I think that answers my question does it….
Thanks

All the gear, and no idea!
As Rosalan says, you can run the heating but not heat any water if it’s drained down, sorry to state the obvious but as you’re new to the system, you DO NOT have to drain the radiator system, just the freshwater system 👍
Once you get used to it, it’s a great system👍👍

Don’t you, as they told me every time you drain down for winter you must drain the Aldi system too, as I plan to use a lot over winter don’t want to keep draining down fully, then filling whole system again…or is there away around this , Thanks

You just drain the fresh water tank.

The Aldi system cannot heat shower water if drained down but can it run heating without harm?
Thanks, So just drain down fresh water etc and open all taps , but not empty the Aldi boiler of water, then I can just keep the motor home heated from the gas or electric is it during cold weather as I plan on using a lot over winter, weekends away etc

NO! When you drain water, drain all water. The Aldi system does not use water, it uses a type of anti-freeze and only heats water through a heat exchanger and has its own special drain system that is best not to touch for 5 years.

That is incorrect. The Alde heating system runs on a Glycol solution that, if correctly installed, is good to about -20⁰ C. You must drain the fresh water out of the boiler chamber in colder weather to prevent damage from water freezing.
If you are in anyway uncertain, I suggest that you call Aldi UK technical support. They are really helpful.

Getting there!
You should drain the Alde boiler occasionally as it uses an air cushion which gradually diminishes with use. I drain ours every 3 months or so via the frost valve. You dont need water in the boiler for space heating.

I think there’s a mix up here between the OP referring to the water in the Alde boiler but some replies talking about the glycol based heating convectors.

So yes you can drain down the 10l of water from the boiler if you need to ie long term storage, winter etc but the glycol in the heating convectors stays where it is although does need topping up every now and then and if the system is used for a think more than 14 consecutive days then as Chipster says there’s a procedure to drain off a bit of water to replenish the air cushion

😲 Frankly I wouldn't trust Aldi UK technical support to help with Alde system advice .

When we drain down for winter, the fresh water tank is emptied, and the hot water boiler is flushed. Also empty the grey waste tank and toilet system.

I have a Floe system between tank and anything else, which blows air through each pipe individually ( sink basin and shower, when you open its tap) hot and cold, at 15psi. It’s essentially dry and ready for the next season!

I think everyone is saying the same thing.

If turning off the heating during the winter, drain down all water.

Fresh tank.
Fresh water in the boiler.
Waste water, toilet flush etc.

BUT No need to drain down the actual Alde heating fluid that goes round the radiators.

And yes, you can use this on it's own without having to heat up hot water.

I have had a-couple of problems with the Alde unit after buying our, not new van.
I found their service impeccable, and that is no exaggeration.
Replacement parts were on hand and where ancillary parts were required they were fitted without cost. Anyone who has visited Aldi will have been fed and watered and shown the staff customer objectives printed on the wall.

enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
I changed the alde fluid in my caravan myself. Without the specialist pump is was hard getting the old fluid out, and then hard to get the air out. I'd g to Alde if I were doing it again.

You don't need a specialist pump, a simple brand new 12v pump will do the trick along with radiator air bleed keys ... Lots of distilled water to pump through and flush out, then add the R13 ...

Sorry if I sound blaise about how simple it is, I'm sure there are lots of other jobs that I employ others to do that are just as simple ... It's all about having the confidence to try it.
