Alde 3010 electric heating not working

It took me hours to disconnect everything and move the boiler to access the panel

They really are not easy to work on, our technician wasn’t looking forward to swapping ours if it needed doing

I did ask him about our gas burner, luckily on ours it’s accessible without boiler removal and ours looks good

Drained water off, 10 seconds as suggested , he reckons we should do similar every few months

All done £365 inc returning customers 10% discount 👍

Nice one David. (y)

In your photo above, our burner is located on the far right hand side of the boiler, behind a panel, (at right angles with that black flue pipe), but the boiler was so tight to the wall, you couldn't access the panel screws, nor enough room to withdraw the burner assembly. :(
Fortunately, one of their former senior technicians Graham Cuttmore (now retired), was able to advise at the time by phone. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Another nice touch, technician gave me back 2 removable fuses from our old board, saying now you have them you won’t need them 🤔👍 but as a colleague used to say I would rather be looking at them than for them justifying carrying every possible spare he might need

Wow there’s not much room in there to manoeuvre owt is there

In off to Moose works tonight for appointment 1st thing. Boiler not working in electric. Expecting worse fingers crossed for the best.
I'm told no elements available for our boiler anymore 🤦🏻
I can hardly look into cupboard with my knees. Even with new knee.

Fingers crossed wish me luck

There has been a few recently that had blown fused on the pcb not the elements so you never know it might be saved lol

Mines a 3000 they told me no heating elements. But I found some online today. Is what it is be what it will be. I can't get to it properly let alone fix it.
So hope I'm in good hands and they look after me and do there best.

Hope youre well David ? I don't really come on hear much these days.

I was told the chassis has to be removed to change the elements, I would be very surprised if they can’t find bits to get you going

They are very good at what they do on that site

Not doing badly thanks cancer treatment seems to have gone well, now on six monthly reviews for four years 👍

Sorry David I had no idea about the cancer.

Alde themselves told me there's not a lot they can do to the 3000 several times. First thing he told me this morning also. However the good news is it was a relay and now being fixed. And new fluid put in.
They commented that it's very good condition. And that I've looked after the van very well.
So happy days 👍🏻

Great news, did they fit a new board ?

I was also told to drain off water every few weeks to maintain an air space essential for expansion and particularly important on older units

Ask them if they have a controller upgrade option, absolute game changer for us a few years ago

Now got colour touch screen, although ours was a 3010 so upgrades may be different for yours 🤔👍

I think we both have to be, as I was informed that the 3000 manual slide control, couldn't be upgraded to the panel type with the timer option. :(
That certainly would've been handy on those cold winter mornings. ;)

Glad to see that you are sorted now. 👍

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Once you’ve had the alde heating you really cannot got back and even more so with the 3010 series and newer with so much control, brilliant design!

Agreed. We had the Truma blown air heating in the Hymer which we thought was quite efficient, but the temperature soon dropped when the thermostat knocked off and the fans stopped.
This Alde heating really is something else, and way way more efficient, albeit gas guzzling. ;) We have 11/12 x radiators.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I have it in good authority that this Gentleman. Is a wizard on older Alde Equipment. He also does the newer and general leisure vehicle repairs.
I've also been told that in the older units you can change the pump to a more quieter inline one. Than the expansion tank whisk style.
If I knew before I was leaving I would have chosen that option.
I may give it a bash myself.

I was told at my visit that the service manager who did my previous jobs has left and gone independent although still doing some work for Alde

If this is him it would be a very useful contact

The chap whom I got great advice and spares from for our 3000 model, was Graham Cutmore, Alde Northants former head of servicing, who also started out on his own some years ago. He has since retired and sold off his stock of spares. He was a keen MH'er too.

PORKSTER. Thanks for the contact details above, ie, all noted. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Yes same situation with this guy who's card I shared.

Well well well I'm bloody fuming. When at Alde they told me everything is great. They've fixed problem they changed fluid. Boiler in great condition for age blah blah blah.
But I needed to buy new slider switch control unit. They didn't have one and there rare as Rocking horse pooh. So even though £800+ lighter. A night spent outside the place a day hanging around the place. I came home very happy and content.
Order part just shy of £300 with post fits part easy peasy. Turns it on and it made right noises great I think.
Nope came away Saturday on electric. Had hot water good news as night got on put heating on. Nothing didn't get warm.
So I just went to bed got up this morning. And went out for day. Came back to van I thought ah try heating nothing electric wise. Tried on gas fired up sounded like usual ran 5 or so minutes stopped.
So now I'm trying to calm down but no prizes who will be on phone to Alde 1st thing. And I doubt I'll be any calmer.

Anyone reading this that's had or still got the 3000. I think everyone I put heating on the whisk pump comes on. But ATM it hasn't. The gas fires up in that position but cuts out in minutes. Setting 3 pump turns on heating didn't fire up.

Any suggestions knowledge please ?

We have the 3000 with the slider control.
On the first slider on the left, only position 1 & 2 operate the electric heating. Position 3 is not connected.
The second/middle slider is gas only.
The third slider on the right is for hot water, heating & hot water, or heating only.

If the pump does not operate with either of these switches on a heating setting, the boiler safety cut out operates, shutting the boiler down. You have to wait a few minutes and try again
If no success, check 3 x items.

1. Check the thermal cut out button hasn't operated. (Unscrew the small black cover above the gas inlet pipe).
2. Check the green fuse hasn't blown, (underneath the large multiplug).
3. Remove the pump from the reservoir, and check the impeller for free movement.

Our last boiler failure was down to a partially seized pump. I sprayed the working parts with silicone spray, and it is working a treat. I do carry a spare though.

Other than that, I am at a loss, however, one more thing springs to mind, ie, when you removed the multiplugs from the back of the old slider control to fit the new slider control, did you fit the plugs back in exactly the same position?

When our slider played up previously, I removed it, gave it a good blow out with an air line, then a good coating with electrical cleaning spray to the multipins, the connectors, and inside the sliders themselves. All worked again as it should. 👍

Good luck sorting it out PORKSTER

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Appreciate your thoughts I too carried a spare that is in there already as other died. I was going to try fix it or change motor. But never did 🤦🏻

Rang Alde this AM eventually got to speak to someone. Tbh he couldn't care less just kept quoting it's an old boiler we don't support them any more 🤬. So I had to calmly remind him they was happy to take job on recently. He was basicly trying to fob me off. With all the guy we have details of.

Anyhow to summarise the knowledge and maybe care has left Alde. And I'm not happy to say the least. Things like this grate on me until it's fixed.

Hey ho at least it's warm and I'm away.
Back to Alde week Friday
