not long enough
We have been away for 10 days 50/50 off grid / on site, we both have colds and need MH to be warm

We have been in north east and Scottish Borders daytime temp around freezing most days

On gas for first three nights we were fine, then on hook up, set to 2Kw as other things running (coffee maker) didn’t want to have to remember to reduce, barely holding 20C on constant and feels cold

So I turned gas back on as I understand it assists the electrics and all good again

We used an 11kg bottle in our first 7 nights (4 off grid) and filled up as we left so know we have plenty of gas to see us through

Tonight I used gas to get up to 22C then set back to 2Kw electric only , temp has dropped to 21C despite running constantly

Almost feel sorry for C&MC taking 2Kw 24/7 although we do set to 16C from 10-7

I am presuming we are doing everything correctly , pretty hard to get it wrong really

is the "room stat"! thermostat calibrated? i noticed somthing similar on ours last week and used the screen to reset the thermostat to the actual van inside temperature and that helped.

20deg.....positively balmy.
We have logs burning in the lounge and oil central heating on ..... I doubt it's very much more than 10deg in general and in the kitchen, with no radiators. it will be half that.

I do intend to look at that, but as we say at home the stat is only a number if we are not warm enough we turn it up

22C at home feels warm, but the house is better insulated , my real ‘concern’ was the display temp dropping when on 2Kw electric only

22C! You do like it warm. Perhaps, a thick jumper would hep.

2kw elec heating will hardly do anything in cold weather,
In a modern Hymer it should help quite a bit, but you will need all of the roman blinds closed
But you will need a good jumper.

Turning the fan to high will help.

Dual fuel is very effective and moderate on the gas, I run 2kw + gas and works very well.
Agree with that.

I’ve never ran elec and gas on alde, tbh I didn’t know you could, how do you do it? As mine is on the drive at 2kw but tbh it’s only on frost duty, maybe if I was in the van I might look at dual fuel especially in Switzerland next month👍😁

you can set the stat temp so that it "encourages "! the boiler to still produce heat!! set it below the temp that the control unit thinks it is at, so you prevent it switching down so soon.

our alde system will run upto 3 kw on ehu, and 5kw on gas and you can run both to achieve 8.5kw "IF"! you have enough gas and electric supply

Is it just a case of selecting 2kw and the gas symbol? But alde has a priority, surely it would just go to selected priority and leave the other selection alone?🤷‍♂️

as David says select bothe electric and gas on the monitor jobs done

I had no idea the gas option was so much more powerful that explains a lot and answers my OP , many thanks 👍

Alde has a pump not a fan, maybe you have a different system
How does the heat get into the living area? You can't be pumping air.

Yes, our heating is Truma. But 2kw is 2kw.

Yes. There is a huge amout of energy in a bottle of gas.

Alde has wet Radiators like your central heating at home and the hot fluid is pumped round them👍

Ah, Right. Thank You. Another learning curve ascended.

That explains the question in the OP. We have just returned home (with radiators) and the house is taking ages to warm up.
We are temped to go back in the motorhome with its blown air heating.

It will use both if it needs both heat sources, after and once it is warm it will drop down to the priority fuel.

Mine is older than yours, don’t think I can set a priority fuel, but hope it only uses gas when electric isn’t performing well

Wow. I can’t use a 11kg in two weeks over Christmas and new year in Black Forest. In actual fact, I’ve never managed to use a 11kg, and that is running boiler ONLY on gas, cooking, and fridge.

I think mines as old as yours I can use either or but in cold weather I just use gas it gives more heat.

2kw elec heating will hardly do anything in cold weather, consider it a gentle warm breeze nothing more.
Our Truma is running on 2kw electric and has been more than adequate the past few days/ nights & we have been well below 0C. Perhaps it depends on the quality of van build/ insulation.

Suspect there might be an issue there.

Our 3010 (just serviced and checked) has been on 2kW in similar freezing conditions and has been fine at 21C (checked with another thermometer).

(Older, but winterised motorhome)
