Do these airbag warning lights show up as a fault on an OBD port reader?
Has anyone checked with an ODB reader.?
I've not heard of them ever being reset.
Mine was checked at the garage with a professional reader and I was told its a ECU fault and quoted £250 for a replacement

I just wanted to determine if the fault had been picked up on an OBD port scanner. (y)

i was doing some bits in the van on Monday and had to turn the ignition on a couple of times to check that all was well after a fuse had blown.
the 2nd time i switched the ignition on the Airbag warning came up and light on.
i was more than a bit pissed I have to say.
rushed in and got the laptop plugged in to OBD, fired up Multiecuscan and I cleared the fault. ::bigsmile:::bigsmile:
was holding my breath as i did it.
switched on to check today and so far all is well.

i only had an airbag warning and light I did not have an accompanying canbus comms fault which i believe is a killer to sort.
maybe it was my lucky day.

I am almost scared to start mine up. Was all set to do a nice run to Weston super Mare last Friday but got called on for Nana duties. Weather turned (just a bit) now. ☹️

i was not hopeful or holding my breath i can assure you. I had enough trouble fitting this ECU as the old one completely died a few years ago. this one refused to proxi align, even local private FIAT specialist were stumped.

I feared the worst a visit to a main dealer si i though i would give it one last go so tried again with the fault decoding and clearing and proxi alignment and i guess I got lucky it aligned and all had been well for the past 4 / 5 years.

I hope thats it now for another 5 years :rolleyes:

An example post From the fiat forum
Erased the codes.
Airbag lamp still lighting.
I have done a scanning with my tool and it says:
B0102
Connec. to ECU container ground.
This error code indicates a fault in the connection between the metal case of the Air Bag Controller and the Vehicle Ground. I suggest you remove the 3 (?) nuts, clean the contact areas and reassemble. Maybe the position under the floor makes it vulnerable to water from snowy Swedish Boots :) ?
There is another ground connection via a wire from the Air Bag Controller M060 to the Ground Point C050 nearby. I suggest you check this out too (See pictures).

I have no personal knowledge of this problem

That is a common code that crashdata tell you the unit is trash. It would be interesting to hear if the strip down resolves it.

An alternative to crashdata

Contact Northern Autotech Services. I took my motorhome to Morecambe where they tested the air bag module, repaired it and refitted it in a hour or so. They also do a postage service. http://www.northernautotech.co.uk/

We can also help if your ECU has the hardware grounding error B0102-00 Connection To ECU Grounding. Please contact us

first if you have this error.

Please note that you are not buying a new, second hand, exchange or reconditioned airbag ECU. This is a repair service where we

it’s dangerous as your airbags will not inflate in an accident.
I think we worry too much. We never used to have airbags?
If I had a vehicle eith this fault and had to replace the module it would only be fitted for an mot then removed.

I had the fault for 6 months when it first happened.
Fiat advice was it's OK to drive as the bags are deactivated. Just no airbags deploy in an accident. So drove around as normal until I could get it fixed properly.
It's not dangerous to drive with them deactivated, it will just be of no help if you prang it.

Better make sure your seat belt is not fitted loosely. The tensioners probably won't activate if you prang it.

Whilst the subject is of interest again i add the 2 graphs ive showed before
i decided to search for "airbag ecu " read 20 pages of threads and collated the data. Most of my working life has involved "show me the data" so here it is
A total of 84 data points (failures). Spread across X250 and X290, no results before 2012. (repaired and new =100%)

You can add me to that!
New 2022 (2021 model) with failed Airbag ECU.
Failed at the dealers one week before I was due to collect it!
Currently awaiting new ECU from Fiat (to be replaced under warranty).

Don't need to now I fixed it. The problem was that they all struggled to fix it.

I suppose if you had a bump at the front ,if the ecu was working the airbags would deploy and that would be a really expensive repair. Does anyone know at what impact do airbags deploy at?

dont know the speed or force,

some useless information, but, I have only had it happen once in a volvo S40 i used to own, I was car 3 in a 5 car shunt and it deployed friction burns on my inner arms through my shirt..... i was able to drive away the rest were lifted onto low loaders . what else would you expect from a VOLVO.

there were tales on the older ford Mondeo that thieves would hit the front bumper with a 2lb lump hammer and the door locks would release as they were activated to allow escape....
