Two definate ways to check.
1..drive into a wall at speed... No airbag deployed, lights working correctly
2..have system checked by suitable diagnostic equipment.

Other than checking plugs etc there's nothing you can do yourself

Modern Fiats seem to have a designed/build in defect of showing warning lights.

Are they well alight or just glowing. When our dash failed they just glowed.

Fiat replaced it under warranty. (y)

As above, it is generally the seat belt attachment

Definitely glowing properly as if a real warning its just the uncertainty of the problem
1. No airbag or
2. The warning light is faulty ?

I don't see how it can be faulty warning lights when both are lit.

It's my opinion the bag activation mechanism/sensor has failed and as a result it has been deactivated to prevent possible unintentional inflation due to a faulty sensor.

Activation mechanism/sensor failure could be something as simple as a broken wire or unplugged connector

We had the same issue, fiat diagnostics said airbag Ecu so £172 for the part and £85 For coding and still the same, turned out to be dirty/bad connection under passenger seat!
