Hi,

Hymer 2017 704PL 2.3 engine size.

Prior to driving to site, I topped up tank with diesel from 20 gal container which I have done in past with no issues.

Drove MH to a site, parked up, went to start MH the following day and will not start.

Called the RAC who inspected MH this morning. Van turning over and diagnostic test performed.
1. Fuel pressure good
2. RPM signal good
3. No pulse at injectors

RAC used fuel start and engine caught but did not start.

Considered it may have been an immobiliser issue as van was working perfectly prior to parking up on site.

I believe there are two immobilisers on MH. I contacted tracking company who turned off remote immobiliser and I used a spare key in case the Fiat immobiliser was the problem. Still nothing.

I would be grateful for advice please on anything I can do as I am still on site still?

Tomorrow, I have to make a decision on whether MH is recovered to my local garage or Fiat dealer? The Fiat dealer will be more expensive but probably got vast experience and knowledge of this specific issue.

Update.

Got a call last week from Fiat to inform me that a new Body Control Module had been fitted, the fuel tank emptied and the injectors removed for testing and cleaning but they still did not know what the problem was?

Once injectors fitted the following day, the van started. Good news but a total mystery to all!

£1000+ later and after I reassembled the dash, seat and other fittings, I have got the van home.

What a relief but I am none the wiser to what the issue was.

Had identical symptoms on a Ducato. For the most part it wouldn’t start, but occasionally did start & run only to fail on subsequent attempts. Recovered to West Country Motorhomes who diagnosed a faulty factory immobiliser. Subsequently needed the replacement immobiliser and keys programmed by Fiat dealer and problem sorted. Expensive!

The immobiliser may still be the issue. Time will tell. Mine did not start but turned over.

Fiat labour at £120 per hour is expensive.

Sorry but personally I wouldn’t be happy with this. They have fired the parts cannon, costing you £1000. It did not fix it. Then the van starts and they just throw it back at you and take your money.

I hope for you it is permanently fixed. But I can’t see why you should pay for the parts that didn’t fix it.

Be warned! If you have an A Class Hymer that needs attention on the engine/ electrics then make sure you are recovered to a Hymer specialist that has attached Fiat workshop. It appears that some commercial Fiat workshops will not touch your MH. Very strange.
My local Mercedes truck service centre will no longer service my m/h. So it's not just Fiat.

This was one of my prerequisites when buying my motorhome, it had to look like a Fiat/Mercedes/whatever, at the front.
Basically the same as any supermarket delivery van.

As soon as you say the word 'motorhome', your average fitter thinks in terms of an American RV or a 1980's style Hymer A class 'bathtub'

To garages, ferry companies, etc I always describe it as a Mercedes Sprinter, "with a Hymer box on the back, like a supermarket delivery van"
Other than the 3m height issue, it's not been a problem, so far ....

I take you point but sometimes they have you by the ‘short and curlies’.

I was lucky to find a garage in this area to repair the van in the first place. Most dealers didn’t want to touch an A class with a barge pole. As you can see from my previous posts, I had to strip the van down for Fiat to work on it. Lucky I don’t mind a bit of DIY.

Things may be different in other areas.

I intend to send the old BCM of for testing (if I can) to identify whether it is a faulty part.
