Been told that I can go to 3950kg but axle weights will stay the same so the question is should I go ahead with it , am 3500kg ATM, at last weigh I was 2000 on back and 1560 on front no water but full fuel tank, if I go ahead I can't move any weight from back to front to balance out as not got any spare storage up front , so over to you .Thanks

Post a picture of the vin plate.
Your axle weights could increase but would depend on tyres/brakes/air suspension etc.
Unless the person that told you you could up plate knows something we don’t?

the only way you are really going to benefit is by fitting air assist to the rear and changing tyres to a higher load rating. that could allow you an additional 150 / 200 kgs over the back axle.

Hi Phill D that's what I was thinking or go the cheaper option and go on a diet too stay at 3500.

You definitely need to put a photo of your weight plate on here otherwise it's guesswork.

Tyres are ok for uprating the rear axle.
What chassis do you have?
If its an Al-Ko you can go to 2240 by fitting air assist on the rear, costs over £2k on an Al-Ko.
If a Fiat chassis it will cost a lot less but not sure what weight you can go up to.

Hi Lenny it's on fiat chassis.

Pilote has down plated the van so it sells to those without c1.
Paper work exercise to get back to 3650.
But to be useful you would be wise to look at getting the rear axle up to 2100/2200 if it is possible or you stay in the same danger with rear weights as you are now.
unless you can move weight forwards.

Dunlop rear air on my Adria Compact Fiat chassis (3650kg GVW) will permit it to go to 2400kg on the rear axle (4250kg GVW) - but only because it has these 1250kg rated alloys as O/E fitment.

My old Maxi Ducato coachbuilt with alko rear was 3920Kg max without air or suspension mods and rear axle went up a bit but can't recall exact.
Vanweightengineering will discuss to a point your options.

Hi I took my Motorhome from 3700 to 3850kg and was told it was purely a paper exercise. I had already got a couple of quotes and think one was charging around £320 + VAT and the other £240 including VAT. First I tried just filling in my V5C but then got a letter from the DVLA saying they needed to see my engineers report.
I contacted
Dee Thorne
VAN WEIGHT ENGINEERING
he did my report overnight I sent this in and about 4 weeks later I received my new V5C and again contacted Dee and he forwarded my new VIN plate.

I must admit I was very impressed with Dee and Van Weight Engineering.

I was interested as we are getting VB Air Suspension Front & Rear and we too hope to up plate - so thank you for listing Dee Thorne.

I have standard Fiat chassis, I have upgraded to 2240 kg on the back axle, using tyre and air bag up grades. We're now 4090 total.
Did once with SV tec, and the second lift with VWE. Dee was very good, and more cost effective,a price from both makes sense if you're leaning towards the up grade route. Our vans nicer to drive with the air bags so almost worth doing that in it's own right.

Up plated ours from 3500 to 4000 kg. 116Q tyres are fine for this. Had to have semi air fitted to rear and heavy springs to front. Used SAP at Doncaster for the suspension work and SV Tech for certification. Not cheap but the reduction in Road Tax from PLG £290 to PHGV £165 per year will help cover the cost eventually.

Another thumbs up for van weight engineering, fab fast service and I've gone from a 3.5 to 4250, added air which is worth doing anyway.
I'd use a kit with the compressor as you can tweak whilst on the move.

slightly confused - you ask if its worth it ? there is only one reason you up-weight - you need more load capacity - so do you ?
AS an aside your road tax gets cheaper over 3500, but a larger question is are you coming upto 70 anytime soon with any health issues ?

Hi already passed that milestone and no health issues 🤞 renew next year . need the extra for all the clothes OH puts in plus all the other crap that we might need.

Perhaps speak to VWE. You need extra rear axle loading, or as you say there's little point to process. Moving weight forwards can be done, but usually very limited scope.

psst.. try 2 bar = 29ps - 4 bar is way too much in my personal experience :)

Considering the possible hassle of renewing a C1 licence regularly and the actual cost of up-plating I might be inclined to have a good sort through EVERYTHING in the van first and then have a re-weigh before making any decision.

A few things to consider. We have a Benimar Tessoro 486 on a Ford Transit and used SV Tech to upgrade from 3500kg to 4000kg which was a paperwork exercise but gave us an extra 500kg payload. The RFL was reduced, which I didn't realise, but when we broke down the AA would not recover us as we were over the 3500kg limit even though nothing physical had changed on the vehicle. So I would check with SV Tech if it is possible and consider the costs if you need to upgrade your breakdown cover.
Anyway I hope this helps. Good luck.

Get in touch with Van Weight Engineering and get their professional advice for £275. In my view a bargain as i got an extra 200kg payload with no changes to van increasing from 3650 to 3850.

As an aside to air bag experiences I have some clever airpressure sensors which I put on the tyres and im very impressed, I was surprised to find tyres go up by 10psi as they get hot (granted in hot France) anyway, out of curiosity I put a couple of them on the airbags, they went crazy... The pressure changes over every bump and undulation and the alarm was going crazy 🤔 the bags hold very little air compared to a tyre and so are all over the place as you drive down the road.

Yes pressure can go from 80 to 99psi in my RV. But why would you fit to an airbag that is kind of built to flex and absorb bumps by collecting the jolt as a pressure change?
