and our worst nightmare - just had a minor accident on our scooter.

So advice please.

i have a broken shoulder and one rib my wife has badly damaged right hand.

i can no longer drive and we will need to fly home

we have plenty of insurance - health/breakdown/accident, but nothing covers getting the motorhome home if hasn’t been in an accident.

so looking at choices, pay to it brought home which i imagine would be very expensive, and who do you ask.

i am also considering leaving it on this aire, but its an automatic barrier and payment, poss local council, so no one to speak to sort out.

so have have a real dilemma - advise please.

sorry no caps, using left hand

I am with others in that you will (beyond reasonable doubt) be covered on your insurance for vehicle repatriation if the named drivers are incapacitated.

If you have no other workable option, please PM me your number and we can work out me flying down and driving you and the MH back to the UK. I need to be back in the UK on Sunday evening so we will have to do some major driving hours. Are you both fit enough for a big journey at this point?

Edit - I’ve sent you a PM with my number…

Thinking about it the Mairie won’t want your mh stranded there and could easily get a breakdown firm to move it for you to a campsite. They have the local contacts and authority to sort it. Those contractors drive big vehicles all the time and have insurance; unlike willing helpers. Go in person if you can. I find it easier to deal with officialdom face to face. Bon courage and best of luck.

Could Yodeli look after it if local?

Just a thought?

I recall when my father had become incapacitated the RAC recovers his car from a car park. As others have said double check if you haven’t already done so and your insurance company (one of them eg health travel breakdown) will possibly be able to help.
I'm coming late to this so you've probably already followed up these various suggestions, but when I last took my van abroad I specifically checked for this very thing and my breakdown cover covered this. So I would certainly check that as well as your insurance.
Otherwise, it'll probably be cheaper to have a friend fly down and drive the van back than having a specialist company do it, should that be necessary. A friend had to leave his van in Austria and fly home and it was cheaper for him to fly back to recover it than to have it repatriated by a business.

Lots of good help/offers/advice in this thread (shows the best of the MH community!) so I'll just say that I wish you well and hope you can get the van sorted soon, and also that you recover well yourself.

yodeli its official, we all love and adore you. What with the help and assistance that you gave over the engine replacement saga and now this, you are a truly lovely, kind, caring person and we’re really lucky to have you as a Funster and a friend.

Big hugs my lovely ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for these kind words indeed.!! 😊😊😊

Would it be an idea for yodeli to phone the ACSI campsite in the morning and ask if there are any Brit MHers there they could ask to pop to the Aire to offer immediate assistance, just in a practical way, to get water etc. There may even be someone there who could drive it to the campsite for you so it is in a safer location.
We need to try and keep this on first page to maximise funster help if there are any in the area.
Hi
Good idea but not familiar with ACSI
Where/who am I supposed to call.
Explain and I'll do it no problem

thank you all for your wonderful response. I even had a Funster call to see us today '125beer' - so appreciated.
sorry for the late reply - we lost internet connection shortly after posting our dilemma.
pleased to say now sorted, getting picked up today by a storage company (Girona way) who will take van and us back to their unit, and we are booked with Jet2 to fly home tomorrow.

Fantastic result. I hope the journey is not too fraught for you and that you both recover well. Try and book wheelchair assistance for the airport/airline, my sister just did this with broken elbow. I know you are probably mobile on your feet but lugging stuff and dealing with queues will be a lot for you both.
Big shout out to 125BEER for helping out a fellow funster. Nice one.

Sorry to hear about your accident and hope you recover well from the injuries. I always use the CAMC Red Pennant as it covers recovery in cases of the driver(s) being unable to drive. Not much use saying it to you now but have a look when you are back to driving the moho.

Don't forget to tell your insurance company as you will be leaving your MH there for a while, I would expect given the circumstances that they will still provide full cover
