"A Year in Spain" My "last gasp" attempt at posting (informative info).

This morning we drove for about 30 minutes to the lovely, cave village, of Galera. We've been here before and stayed overnight at the parking for the Necropolis (in fact last April it was where we found out that we had Covid, well Martin at least cos he did the test whilst I was out exploring.) This morning we parked at the beginning of a ride I'd downloaded. We skipped the first loop and set off on the second one, to come across a locked gate. We backtracked, rode up a road, and rejoined the route. The route was from last years annual mountain bike ride, and we saw signs today for this years ride, that we ignored in preference to our Garmin instructions. A rocky, loose descent into a dry river, and corresponding climb out the other side, and we realised why they're rerouting.

Anyway, we survived. Martin had to manhandle both our bikes down the steep slope, and help me on one bit of the uphill. I then walked the next few hundred metres, whilst Martin rode. I don't mind being a "frail female" sometimes. Especially when my wellbeing is concerned.

We then drove to the motorhome area of Cullera. So far it's quiet here. Us, one Dutch motorhome and one French campervan.

We parked outside an abandoned bar, right on the bridge.

And then we set off on the closed loop

The road detour, though, took us past some lovely cave houses.

And up onto a plateu. There was a large bird sitting on a small tower. Unfortunately my camera isn't good enough for zoom, any more.

DSCN6826~2.JPG

We rode along the plateu and then turned to ride back down through some "Badland" areas. Still very rideable, even for me.

Then ...........

........ then we came to the tough bit.

Before climbing back up for mine.

No way could I have got my own bike down.

The ride then improved, although I still walked the first bit.

But got back on again.

(Well I think I have the photos in the right order, I can't see 😥)

The village of Galera seems worth a visit in itself. There are some lovely cave houses to view, with some higher view points.

These weren't on our riding route, so we didn't see the views personally. But it looked like it was worth a slog up there.

It was very quiet here last night when the last of the footballers left, quite early on. We were still only three overnight, which surprised us. The area has space for about 50 and good access from the motorway.

We're now home. Martin could hardly open his eyes first thing this morning after riding in so much dust. Then both our bikes had a puncture (and they're tubeless as well!) so heading home a few hours early seemed the best move.

We shopped at Mercadona at Puerto Lumbreras, and smiled to ourselves at the sight of some Dutch motorhomes sitting out on the camperstop next to the main road, and across from the supermarket.

Cúllar (not Cullera, as I posted yesterday) would be so much nicer to spend some time on.

We've had Friday Fish n Chips (a first for us) but we wanted to try some frozen stuff in the airfrier. It wasn't bad, either.

Today I went back to Hugos Home Farm as a sort of volunteer (got a tee shirt anyway) 👍. It was supposed to give Colin, Sebastian and Hugo time off for Seb's birthday, but instead it gave them time to go and work across the lane on the newly flattened land, to get a trench ready for the concrete for new gates.

Happy birthday, Seb, indeed 😂

A few photos

The land across will have car parking and, it's possible, space for a motorhome or two. It all depends on the room left when the animals have their space.

Did you have a good day?
It seems very different than the "normal" days you have posted.
Does he take volunteers easily? I would love to volunteer with our granddaughter.

It was a different day, but enjoyable.

He seems to have quite a few willing volunteers but, when he gets the other part up and running he's going to need more.

If you're in the area go for a visit with your granddaughter and have a chat with Colin. The farm is open to the public at weekends from 11.00 to 2.00.

Today, was another different day. We had to be up and out to go to our health centre to renew our expired health cards (scrappy bits of paper). Traditionally this had been a traumatic experience, but not today. We were "at the window', new papers handed over, and away, before our appointment was even due.

I was then supposed to be making a hospital appointment for a hearing test, because I have tinnitus. My hearing, apart from the extra noise, is excellent, so, I've asked our best Spanish friend to go with me for a revisit to my new doctor just to make sure that the onerous trips to Murcia hospital are really necessary. Watch this space 😂😂

Martin had lent our Dutch neighbour his gravel bike to ride whilst we were last away. Willem lost the key for the battery. Luckily I had the spare key for that bike since we did a multi day ride in the Spring. Good job because the local key cutting place can't make another ... we have to contact the name on the key.

We had thick mist rolling in from the sea when we got back from our early town visit. Martin was going with the same Dutch neighbour to look at bikes and I was going out for a ride. Luckily for me, the mist cleared by 10.30 and I had a pleasant local ride. (The bikes in the local shop weren't worth looking at).

I think I saw a ...... dinosaur or elephant ....... 🤣

But the rest of my photos were focused, mainly, on the clouds. We're expecting a change in the weather very soon.

Back to the norm for November, I hope.

Finally some cold coming. I can't wait:giggle:
Nice pics(y)

We really do need a drop in temperatures and some rain (although we don't want to have to live with it).

Thanks for the pics comment 🙂

So has it been hotter than normal?

looking at the area you are overnighting and cycling in, looks very attractive to us.

We hopefully will be there around the middle of January.

Much hotter in the Med part of Spain than normal. It reached 30° last week. It's forecast to drop over the next few days but it should still be a nice temperature here.

Another different day for us yesterday. Martin had to do a 'President" duty, "up on the roof" for a water ingress problem for an apartment owner.

Then it was too windy to ride, so we decided to do the shopping/wine buying/pharmacy/parcel pick up all one.

We both bumped into best friend Angéla at different times.

Today Martin is taking the new owner of the red bike out (bikes on the back of our car) and I'm going local, Billy no Mates, once again 🤣.

The Dutchman wanted "his" bike so much he kept upping the price for it. Martin eventually caved in, but reduced what he'd take for it.

I think that might be a first for Dutch !

Change of plan again. It's too windy for an enjoyable ride and Martin's new bike has a problem with the back tyre going down 😂. He doesn't have a reserve bike any more !

So instead we've been to the town to do a few admin jobs, and inflate the tyre with an air line.

I was well and truly chastised in the medical centre for taking a copy of my A4 "card" instead of the original. The copy was torn up and binned! The original is now in my purse 😂

The Dutchman has taken the other bike key to Mazarron to see if they can do a copy there.

Chicken and mushroom air fried empanada (pasty) experiment for lunch.

It wasn't too windy today, so our plans were ON.

Martin and Willem were going for a "new owner" maiden ride, through and around the Badlands and I went out on a brocolli hunt. No brocolli was picked in the making of my ride because none had yet been picked and abandoned, although some picking appears to have begun.

It was still a very pleasant day for riding and I saw 5 other riders. A first!

I was in full charge of the Air frier, but today I made a fish pie with carrots on the side (in, liieu of brocolli)! The pie was finished in the airfrier and it was delicious, if I say so myself!

I may be going to the Farm again on Sunday, I'm just waiting to see if I'm needed, but we're planning another short trip away, possibly starting on Tuesday morning.

A few photos from today.

I have no photos from my ride, I didn't have time...I remained constantly aware that I was riding with a novice biking pensioner...at 74 years young, being 2 years older than myself, I felt somewhat responsible....and so should I, he bought my YT (Young Talent) eBike just a few days ago after constantly badgering me to sell it to him...finally after waving a wad of Euros, I caved in...but having 13500km on the odometer I thought of retiring the bike or at least, make it my special ride bike..
Well now it has a new rider....and I'm clocking up the KMs on my new ride...🤔🥳🥳👍🇪🇦

Intrigued about a Broccoli hunt, what’s all that about?

13500 km is an impressive distance.

weather is still looking very good,

we are due two days of sun 😀😀 in Lockerbie, trouble is the 8 hours between sunrise and sunset! plus we have a hill which deducts 21/2 hours.

We have a lot of fields around us growing different vegetables. Brocolli is one of them. When the fields have been picked, the shepherd's come in with their sheep. Our aim is to get there before the sheep and pick some for our own use. If you ever eat freshly picked vegetables, you know just how good they are.

We have occasionally been picking whilst the sheep have been munching and the shepherd has told us where the better bits are 👍

I used to make a dozen copies of the sheets years ago .no one ever caught on :ROFLMAO:

That would be in the sheep normally:ROFLMAO:

So today was another different, but lovely day.

We woke to cold temperatures, about 3° overnight, but the wind had dropped and the sun eventually warmed the air. We took Willem and Laudy for a walk from Bolnuevo and then to the Yaho restaurant to for lunch. To be more accurate, they took us in their car because Laudy doesn't drink so the rest of us could have a drink with lunch.

We parked near the big swing and walked uphill just to see the views.

We then descended down a river bed, with the remains of an old water canal.

We then arrived at the sea at one of the small bays, from where we walked up and along the coast to eventually return to the car. A classic walk for anyone staying in Bolnuevo and walking from there.

The restaurant was new to Willem and Laudy, but I think they enjoyed their meal.

The next one is on them 🤣👍
