We visited York Rowntree Park Caravan and Motorhome Club site in early January this year.

Definitely worth a visit if you have not already been there.

You can see our YouTube video of our visit here: https://youtu.be/FiwUne9NiiY

The National Railway Museum was much better than I had expected.

It's a shame the floods every now and again. I gather it flooded the week after we were there :-(

We visit York regularly... love it but don't stay at Rowntree Park but the THS at Rugby Club... not this year, unfortunately, due to Flood Defense works.
30min stroll along river to center of York.👍👍

We also love the york site even though it could be a day trip for us, have tried other sites in York but none have the convenience, yes it's pricey, but. Lot less than the cheaper air BnB our friends could find

Have got very strict with length now phoned the other day to see if they could get a 9 metre tag axle on and got a very blunt answer NO use the web site , but most sites will see if they have a long plot they can get you on but noticing more are now saying NO head office rules .

We loved how close it is to all the main attractions in York.

That's a shame.. Some of the pitches definitely looked big enough. 😔

York Caravan Park. Lovely site with huge pitches and half hourly 10 min bus ride in from the site. Immaculate large bathrooms. Again not cheap but well booked up with repeat customers. Rowntrees has convenience but little else imo.

We live in York and, in my daily jogs, I run past the Rowntrees Park site. Right up until Christmas, it looked pretty full but in the last week or so, there seems to be a lot of spaces. We‘re currently suffering building work and may try and book a few nights there just to be away from the noise and dust. But its location is hard to beat for such a popular city.

Love the location of Rowntree, got a booking there in March, and again in April which were both booked last year and really looking forward to returning as we never got this year.
But, I feel these may be our last visit there as the prices are just getting out of hand now, and I've just experienced their new dynamic pricing structure for our March visit as we've extended our visit by one night, a Monday, at a cost of £38, when the price we paid for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday was £93 total.

We'll be looking at either Manor Farm or the boatyard in future

Stayed there last year, cracking site and the boat next to the site takes you up to York and brings you back.
Good pizza van that visits, Saturday night I think it was😋😋
Some good dog walks along the river to the marina that has a good cafe.

Edit: Sorry got confused, we stayed at Naburn Lock site.

We used to stop in the pub carpark years ago, eat and drink in the pub. Our 3 kids were only young and it was when we had our big CI mizar.
Then the campsite got funny with the landlord about it so he had to stop letting us. We’ve stopped at poplar too infact that’s how we found the pub, they suggested us stop in the carpark.
We used to like it even more if we got one of the riverside pitches . There used to be a small site round the corner too very quiet and basic don’t know if that’s still there.

First did that trip in 1973 using a Vauxhall Viva to tow our first caravan which was a Siddle Whirlwind which was built before he turned his name around and called them Elddis.
Very heavy caravan and rarely got out of 3rd gear, never used to book either just turned up on a Friday night and got a pitch.

I 've just looked on the app - end of March £58/nt for 2 adults :Eeek: .

Never seen that much availability for there.

That's the new dynamic pricing, for my booking at end March, beginning April, I "only" paid £48 night 🤑

We were there (great location) for a few days at the beginning of last September, at a bit over £40 / night. When we returned from our trip, there was all the fuss about the new CAMC booking system, so I had a look at the same time for this year and was disappointed to see that the prices there had gone up by around 25% :(

I think some businesses are taking the opportunity to bump up the prices under the guise of inflation but clearly 25% is over the top.

The recent reviews from some members of The CMC that have been to York, those looking at booking pitches in the future speak for themselves, have a look, but basically its the same problem many long term/existing members are experiencing, and will, as they say be reconsidering their future membership.
1. The booking system does not allow easy amendments without penalties, and continually crashes out on them in use.
2. Pensioners (mainly tuggers) now feel they cannot pay out the deposit sums in one go, to allow them to book many sites for a whole season.
The costs have risen too far for them to be able to afford several of the prime sites that they have been visiting for many years, one quote's over £280 for a week already, with prices to increase still further later in the year possibly.

Don't shoot the messenger, but the implementation of deposits had to happen IMV, as too many people abused the booking system, so there really isn't any way of not requiring to pay a hefty deposit amount for booking many sites at the time of booking to secure a pitch. They would have to pay a deposit with The CCC or any indie site, its only the CMC that didnt until now demand a securing deposit, until they realised too many were taking the mickey with the booking system.
Non EHU pitches have to be made more readily available, they can do this in Europe, but The CMC are not working fast enough to offer this across the board, which puts many of us self sufficient MH off staying on their sites.
I guess there will be an increase in available/empty pitches, especially at peak times with todays higher prices, let alone those in the future should pitch fees go up still further.
