A Motorhome tracker you'd be stupid not to fit.

OK, price is at the upper end and there is an annual subscription of c.£50 or so, but methinks you will have to go a long way to beat @vanbitz non starter and tracker. 24/7, with text alert in seconds of any attempt to enter the vehicle. (I don't know if you need strikeback/growler though) also battery condition is constantly monitored both veh. and hab.
It works for me very well, and I can 'ask' it for position in real time on google maps.
I wouldn't be comfortable with less than that tbh, and I think you may struggle with getting in on price with the support offered by metatrak.

Can you point to one? If it has a geofence it is likely on all the time, but I'd like to see how they can do that without turning it on.
one of many

I may have missed something but to protect battery life it only needs to switch on if stolen so linked to an app via the mobile network it could be switched from a dormant state to live for location.

Not much good if your van is in storeage, could be weeks before it's realised it's gone

Obviously not but many are not in storage.

I'm thinking how many wouldbe theives really go armed with a tracker tracker ? answer, I don't know but would be interest to know how many motorhomes fitted with a tracker disappear for good against how many are recovered because of the tracker.

My guy reckons he could get two to three years out of a system battery if we only woke it only once a day. Obviously 18 months for twice a day etc.

We know from experience that vans are often laid up, sometimes found quite close to the place of the theft. Obviously there is little data on motorhomes, but plenty of cars are nicked with trackers that are found and or disabled.

I might give A.R.M. a call tomorrow and have a chat with their tech guy

A link to an app would be useful to monitor battery life , interestingly pacemaker batteries last more than five years, different technology no doubt.

Yes when it reports position you would want it to report battery life as well. (y)

this one is acc switched so powers on with the ignition

gps and 2g signal blockers freely available on ebay for £15 - £20 that just plug in cigar socket

I have to admit ya got my ear , Jim , i do like the idea . Based on your background , if you could pull it off , i'd certainly consider one , but it would be dependant on final spec's .

Yes real time trackers are just too easy to find and remove. We need STEALTH. Own power supply that will last a couple of years and make it easy to hide, only coming alive when we ask it. The four bob always on Chinese ebay jobbies don't do that.

How about fitting 'low hanging fruit' to the vehicle? A tracker that can be easily found by the thief (and they do look for them... the organised criminals go on the same Thatcham courses as the good guys).

And in addition, a covert tracker that is activated when needed. This might give a short term chance to find the vehicle if it is stolen, before the 'easy' tracker is found, whilst maintaining the ability to activate the covert device when appropriate.

Yes, these are hooked up via the 12v system and constantly transmit. Because of this they are found pretty quickly.

Not sure that a tracker has to be too sophisticated if used in conjunction with a good Thatcham approved alarm and an immobiliser.
It’s a third line of defence

Now there's and idea, how about a run of the mill cheap always conected to 12 volt tracker that once removed or disconected triggers the main tracker into life after a delay to fool the thief into thinking he has found the tracker, got rid of it and is home and dry.

Can track Asset - track.com

Up to 9 years battery life, no hardwiring, GPS tracking, radio broadcast activated in event of theft, trackable behind concrete, steel or in buildings unlike GPS only. Dedicated in house recovery team. One of the best asset recovery rates on the market. Not as cheap as chips, but very reasonable for what you get.

I'd be interested too @Jim, even for our old girl. :)

Unfortunately, I'm not able to contribute anything further, than those ideas/suggestions already offered. Sorry. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

No not yet because that will depend upon the facilities we settle with. But my aim will be to source it as cheap as possible. I appreciate that sim cards on networks need to be paid for but the £25 or more a month that some tracking companies charge does seem to be a rip off, So I'd be looking for no subscription at all or if I am snookered into a sub then it would be a very, very low one!
The Vodafone tracker is €79. 90 up front then €5 a month service charge or €8.33 a month for 24 months then a fiver a month.

Mine is a cheap Chinese one but also set up as alarm ,door triggers and fuel and ignition cut out. As soon as door is opened I get a text message, ignition on I get text message. If it is found and ripped out they will have to rewire the ignition and fuel cuicuit before it will start all time consuming.
