A Motorhome Selling Idea

Excellent idea 👍

I would guess the winning dealers bid will always have to be conditional on a viewing to verify the description is accurate - that is only fair and reasonable.
I know lots of people don't like selling motorhomes and find it rather stressful. Some buyers can be rude, some are professional hagglers, plenty are a combination of both. You get time wasting tyre kickers and your advert can attract all sorts of low-life.

Which is why agency selling is so popular, they come along offer you a price in isolation and if they sell they pay either an agreed sum or a percentage of what they get. You will get less for your van, but for plenty of you it is worth it. YOU WILL ALMOST ALWAYS GET A BETTER PRICE IF YOU SELL IT YOURSELF. However if you decide to go down the agency route, because you'd rather save yourself the hassle, I'm thinking there might be a better way.

So I have an outline of an idea.

I build a network of dealers, I'm thinking at least a dozen, but maybe 20. the more dealers in the network, the better the chance that one of them is looking for what you are selling and might be prepared to pay that little bit more for your van.

You want to sell, you properly describe the van, take lots of pictures and upload them to me here. The only personal details would be the town/city you are located in.

I then auction your van to this closed dealer network with the seller seeing the bids as they come in. With the the sellers agreement, the winning bidder would then get sellers details and then both seller and buyer can take it from there.

I'm thinking this should be a completlety free service to Funsters because I would charge the dealers a fee to be in the network or charge them a buyers fee.

Just sounding this out at the moment, what do you think?
if the winning bidder was travelling to me then fine.

Excellent idea . Dealers often get requests for a specific van or layout . This service would be ideal for any dealer hunting down a particular van for a client.

If a dealer wants a van he will offer his best price. I don’t think Trade comes into it. He will know what he can sell it for so will use his skill on what needs doing before sale and therefore what time and cost will be required.

If you buy from a dealer you expect to pay more for security, warranty, right to hand back etc. if you buy privately you forego these benefits and expect to pay less.

It will need to have a good selection of dealers to ensure buying dealers cannot price fix between them and a good geographic spread.

Sounds like a good idea to me!

I like this idea. I've no intention of selling for a few years yet but if this is up and running I would be quite likely to use it.

I think it’s a great idea!

Jim, sounds really positive good idea, if I/ we decided to sell, this would be my 1st port of call, I don't use the site as much as I should, but know when I do, always a good response :giggle:

Idea in principle and on paper it’s great but your in effect acting as a middle man and I bet someone will point fingers when things go wrong.

Dealers would say you put us in touch of the seller and the seller would say the dealer did me over like a kipper.

Me, naaaa I don’t fancy having my middle man’s fingers burned regardless of what’s made in £££.

To much hassle.

As I understand it, by taking a payment from either seller or dealer puts the middleman in a position of some liability if things go wrong. This may be wrong though

Yep their is always accountability and liability is all forms of business hence why I posted the above.

Jim’s not a dull man and will consider all angles and pitfalls so best of luck to him.
