A month in Provence Throughnal

You’d have trouble getting moulins in the restaurant let alone near a plate of chips!

You wouldn't have expected to find a moulin smack in the middle of Paris, though, would you - even though you already knew there used to be one smack in the middle of London!

You are both philistines, mussels, frites and white wine is hard to beat. 😂

More real ones in Paris than London but lots using the name in both!

He said they were moulins, not moules!!!
Tasty

But no chips.

No journal entry today as we chased our tails as Paula's bike made a horrible noise for 15kms or so.
My diagnosis was bearings but because she has a Shimano nexus or something like that the 2 decent shops we found couldn't do it. Something about a special tool.
It got better later in the day and we did do 60 kms nearly making Orange and Avignon

We cycled past Joncquieres on a voie verte that we have already done, but they have extended it now so will update that.

We are holed up in Badarrides at a free aire within striking distance of both Avignon and Orange. Maybe 6 places. 2 of us tonight. Town looks good with weir and bridge and portents. Will do journal for here after walk round after we have explored our own olive orchard which leads down to the river where it looks like burrows for coypu across the bank but no evidence to back that up.

Our personal olive orchard (no they aren't ripe enough yet) for photo du jour WESTY66

Forgot about this town this morning

It's ok but don't rush to it.

Cycling from our base at Badarrides to Joncquieres this place was in the way. As we were passing it from the other side of the motorway we could see what looked like a huge castle which intrigued us enough to stop and investigate.

2 tonight.

Bedarrides (not Badarrides) where we are staying and Avignon.

Located 20 km flat cycle to Avignon and 18 km flat cycle to Orange both on pretty much dedicated voie vertes all the way (though you are better off going to Sorgues on the road if heading to Avignon.

The aire might hold 6. We have our own... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/bedarrides.612/

I ll have to think about photo of the day a bit as I think I might have to dumb it down to reach the level of the intended target 😏

Avignon

There is an aire at Avignon. Probably 15 minutes walk to the citadel. But it's 11 euros !
She wanted an e bike so she gets to use it !

The map is looking quite full now.

If you use the scroll bar at the top of the journal and select map. You can then choose one of them entries and it takes you to the blog.

You can do the same thing on continental tours but make sure you "view full map"

Just the one (so far) today. It's an alternative route of sorts to the point du gard from Uzés returning on the disused railway line.
I ve marked it on the map as the haribo museum as already have the wonderful aire at Domaine St firmin. Must be close to 40 vans here tonight and they are parked on vines opposite the front of our van (pic 2) which we haven't seen before.

Will have a wonderful round this lovely town tonight or tomorrow night.

And yes, I know it's in occitaine but supplies for winter are essential and it doesn't get better than the price and quality of wine from here (in our view)

Previous readers will note we have cycled on the disused railway line from the stunning town of Uzes with its stunning aire and their lovely wine.

We came in for our winter supply of wine.

First up was the haribo shop though and keeping the... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/uzes-to-pont-du-gard-the-other-way.614/

We stayed there before as well (10 years ago maybe) but when we passed it from the other bridge no motorhomes in there. Presuming it is closed.

Just checked and S4s and camper contact don't have that one. Bit of a shame as the bus was an added freebie 😏

We'll have to give the Aire and wine at Uzes a try. We always stay at the car park on the way in, just on the roundabout. It's also where Mrs daveclare visits the Sunday Brocante.

We just realized that Uzés is the only place on this whole trip that we have overnighted at before. We were intent on trying unknown places.

We have obviously left Provence now as we are in occitaine. We hope to stay down here somewhere on Saturday as Sunday looks to be a travel day with anticipated rain. Don't know which way we will go yet but Wednesday morning is our Calais appointment.

2 today. Small one to follow

On previous posts/journals I have neglected to inform about what a lovely town this is.

It is perched on a hill with a great one way system around town, unless you are driving, as there are incessant stops.

The rocade of the town is adorned... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/uzés-town.615/

We looked for a circular cycle route and found one that was 30 km long.

Not overly interesting it passed through Flaux

Then onto la Chapelle with an etang with a walkway where we saw frogs fish dragonfly and a crayfish

Through a few other... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/st-quentin-la-poterie.616/

By all accounts it gets busy here with Saturday market and Sunday brocante.

I ll try to mark on a map where there is even more overflow.

I think the best parking is as you enter the gates parking in one of the spots on the right. But the overflow gets later sun

The blue dot is where we are. In the vineyard. The W3W reference is where the extra overflow is and the main aire is at the bottom left of the pic.

Update of no journal entries tonight.

We found another disused railway line in Florac as we make our way home. Weather wasn't great today so we traveled past Clermont and found an aire at Aigueperse. Free and we got the 2nd last spot.

Tin of reduced lentils with some form of salted meat for dinner and we see the road barriers go up.

So we followed the crowds and all of a sudden there's an open air theatre at the church. Quick chat with the director who says there are 5 plays in 5 locations and if we get down to the market hall we can buy tickets for 5 theatre shows.

Paying for French theatre ?

Oh yes we have. We have been assigned green group to look after us as they are 14 ish and learning English. Just on pre drinks at the moment at 2 euros a beer.

Tickets for the shows ? 5 euros each.

Not a great day weather wise so we drove and cycled and found this spot which caters for 12 or so motorhomes and has dumps but leccy and water don't want to work.

Easy park up and flat walk into what appeared to be a tired town.

But about 20... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/aigueperse.617/

We have moved up now and back at Avion where we were a couple of months ago coming back from Austria.
Last night was on the Marne

We wanted a viable alternative to Mauriel sur ay which gets busy for when we want a cycle along the marne and hit Epernay.

9km from Epernay on the marne and therefore a flat cycle from this champagne village to the champagne town.

Not a lot... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/damery.618/
