A Class to 6M PVC

All the gear, and no idea!
I know Jim has downsized to a 6m pvc, anyone else done it with success?

Anyone done it with regrets?

The Rationale in my thinking is that when I retire I’d like to go touring to the far east of Turkey and the far south of Morocco and my thinking is that ideally it should be done in something that’s fixable (manual as opposed to comfortmatic etc) something that’s easily recoverable (6M pvc van as opposed to 7.5+ A class) and should it get minor damage, worse case scenario get the hammer out and bang it out and weld if necessary to get home when the trip is up (if you bump an A Class you’re Gaffer taping up and turning round for home if you’re lucky) also there’s the benefit of under 3.5t which makes it easier to reverse europe once through Germany, does this make sense??
If that’s a yes can someone please convince Mrs Westy😁😁

I want a smaller van with more ground clearance, a proper auto box and better build quality. Also I want a new van as this one is over 6 years old.
Currently we have the Adria Coral 670 slt. Comformatic.

One reason to downsize for me was not having to read the comformatic failure thread anymore:LOL: although having just spent £700 at Adams and Morley and all is good we still went for the downsize.

IH 680 CFL.

First time we have bought a second hand van as well but as soon as the other half walked in it was sold. Just coming up 3 years and only 3000 miles on crafter 177bhp with auto box. Hardly used.

Yes we now have to make a bed but the feeling of space is really good. Bathroom is great and has quality build and the space the other half needs unseen in any other panel van we have looked at.

Just over a week until collection after NEC show.

This is an interesting thread as we are also thinking of downsizing from a 7.5m Rapido A class, which we have had from new, to a 6.3m ish PVC/slimmer A class. We have been very happy with the Rapido A class but are no longer planning to be a way for 3 plus months and don't really need something as big (We used ski then change over to cycling and ther was quite a bit of kit!)

We are off to the NEC next week to see what there is but one of the key criteria is how to get the tandem on whatever we buy, we don't want to make beds up and we would prefer a rear lounge. I have only found one PVC to date that seems to come close and that is the Rapido dreamer living van https://www.dreamer-van.co.uk/fourgon-dreamer-living-van.php

If anyone knows of anything else I’d be interested in both PVCs and a smaller/slimer A class!

Not as easy as you'd think , there's moving parts in there with windows and locks etc
In my last van I did it. I pulled the door cards off the cab doors, the side door and the rear doors. I threw in sheets of sticky backed closed cell foam that had a foil backing. It required lots of cutting and random shapes to get around the internal ribs and the door mechanisms, but it wasn't that hard. I probably got 80% area coverage. It didn't have to be neat to be effective. It made the van significantly quieter to drive, warmer in the winter, cooler in the sun, and the doors made a nice 'klumpf' noise when you slammed them.

Yes but that's more sound deadening than insulation, I did that to several of my vw campers. It helps sure but is nowhere near the same as the rest of the body. The cab is always the weak point in motorhomes for insulation, even on a class models to be honest.

This mobilvetta I have is terrible for insulation. Don't fancy being in very cold conditions with it .

It was just thick deadening. But 20mm of foam with a foil back provides a pretty good thermal barrier compared to air. On cold mornings if we had the heating on, dew drops remained on the bits I'd treated.

We were looking at this van but was similar to our first van so decided against going back. Very good quality vans. Also slimline

Have a shuftie at Carthago C-Compactline A-classes - they are slimmer than others at 2.12m, only 7cm wider than a PVC. Our i-138 model is also only 6.41m, 5cm longer than our previous LWB PVC.
