A Class Question

Sitting on the idyllic shore of Lago Maggiore next to an expensive looking Cathargo. Just wondering. As I understand, the front double swings down when needed. Has it swung down on anyone while they were merrily motoring along?
Yup, we've had it happen to us a few times! At first it was because the pins/cable needed adjusting which solved it however if we hit a bad pothole, vicious speed bump etc too fast (some of the ones in Ireland are speed 'troughs' I'm sure😄) one side can become dislodged and drop a little but that's all, we don't have any straps.

We have had 3 Cathargos and non of the drop downs have had a holding strap. The present one is very difficult to push up and takes a lot of strength to get it to lock. One side of it has dropped whilst driving in the past. It's going back ... again ...to the dealers for them to adjust it.

Our Carthago bed has dropped down quite a few times. I have adjusted the retaining pins a couple of times but still great ready to put my hand up on bad roads.

A conclusion can be drawn from this thread that the straps and seatbelt buckles are safer than pins.

Will manufacturers learn?
The manufacturers like many official bodies ( holes in roads, weak bridges, no hard shoulders) find it cheaper to pay compensation than rectify faults. It depends on how many people are injured or killed before they will do anything. The odd bed falling on someone’s head whilst driving doesn’t matter.

Search under my name for info on how to adjust them, probably with the words adjust, bed and/or pins ... however you might find it quicker if you search for Vaseline! 😄

Thanks, will have a look after the weekend. We are going to Steam and Traction Fair at Driffield for the weekend, no EHU so it could be a bit hot in the Motorhome.

One tip ... Do not wash your MH before you go as it'll be covered in soot by Monday ... as will you! 😄

I’m not sure what our system is but you push the bed up and it clicks/snaps shut.

It feels extremely robust and satisfying, no pins or belts you can see. You have to pull a big handle to release it.
