A check list for France ?

I can't remember!! I think you could check it on viamichelin but I think it's around 9 euros. That old long winding round is interesting (for the first 2 times) but adds quite a bit to your journey which makes it a closer comparison to travel cost

The slow road is only worth using if you're going to use an aire along the route

Plenty of payload and space for loads of wine.
From our last trip.

If you've got a refillable gas tank then the correct adapter.

Hymer22 If you do indeed have a Hymer you don’t need Headlight stickers, there is an adjustment on each light for LH side of road driving.
If you wear glasses you need a spare pair with you.
Spare vehicle light bulb set.
Yellow vests
Various water tap adapters, and a hose.
Hi you are the first to mention water tap adapters can you tell me what i need ? Also yes it is a Hymer so how do you adjust the headlights for the LH side ? Cheers

2 x Warning triangles. They must be easily accessible.

Hi Viz vest per person, they must be easily accessible without the need to exit the vehicle (IE not in a locker)

Others have mentioned the Crit Air sticker, spare bulbs (even if it takes a wheel and wing removal to change the bulb), the water hose and gas adaptors, the UK sticker (I have a GB one as well so that people don't presume we are 'UK'rainian), get one of the debit cards that has a Euro account (Starling, Revolut, Wise etc), remember all your paperwork including V5, Insurance, Driving licence

Two? warning triangles???

I will get my man to answer those questions for me as that is his dept.

Alcohol allowance

How much you can bring depends on the type of alcohol. You can bring in:

  • beer - 42 litres
  • wine (still) - 18 litres
You can also bring in either:

  • spirits and other liquors over 22% alcohol - 4 litres
  • sparkling wine, fortified wine (for example port, sherry) and other alcoholic drinks up to 22% alcohol (not including beer or still wine) - 9 litres

Two? warning triangles???
'Double' Checked.
Residents need two warning triangles, Johnny Foreigner can get away with just one.

Hi Viz jackets.
It is illegal, and a finable offence, even for a moment, to be on the hard shoulder of a motorway not wearing a hi viz jacket.
Hence they have to be accessible from the drivers position without exiting the vehicle.

Is that before or after? Looks like roughly a week's supply.

Has anyone yet mentioned the requirement to complete an online API at least 24 hours prior to departure from the UK?

Pre the B word we are not allowed to mention for fear of being sent to Coventry you were permitted 10 cases of wine per person, now it's two cases (18 litres) per person.

And if Rees-Mogg gets his way, that will 3 gallons, two quarts and 8 Fl.oz of Wine, anything more and you'll be paying a Guinea per pint for anything over the limit

;)

You might need this too:

French 'clean air' stickers (Crit'Air vignettes)

We haven’t got these (yet) if we avoid areas where needed can we travel without ? Thought about a spontaneous trip then remembered we have no stickers 🤔

I was checked in Paris while I was parked but if you just drive through less likely

It short, yes.
But an increasing number of towns now need to have them.

Given the cost I'd apply for both a French Crit Air and German Umwelt sticker.
They cost a few Euro and last the life of the windscreen
Both will arrive within a couple of weeks of the application

Don’t forget these are per person allowances 😊:wine:

Your maths is a bit out, 18 Lt = 24 bottles = 4 cases.

Out of interest coming back through Newhaven had one guy come up to us and ask if we had any meat, beef etc., onboard we just no any I thought there was no restriction coming into the UK. Anyway we checked the reg and the only restriction for personal use was 2kg of pork.

And in the customs shed we asked where we had come from and how much wine we had and proceeded to tell us we are allowed 19 bottles - wrong it's 18 Lt, 24 bottles.

Were they trying to catch us out or do they just employ idiots?

A 'case' is 12 bottles (750ml x 12 = 9 litres)
A 'half case' is 6 bottles

A Tun (Wooden barrel) of wine is 960 litres (80 cases) and including the barrel weighs one Tonne (1,000kg, and is about 1 cubic meter in space) hence where the word Ton, Tun, Tonne (and also Ship Tonnage Tax, a measurement of space not weight) are all derived from.

I rest my Case M'Lord.

Your last line is correct.

We used to import wine commercially.
One time, coming back with a 7t Luton van filled to the roof with wine we had a 12 year old customs office ask how much wine had on board.
We said, 2000 bottles, he then worked out the duty, and asked us for £75!
We paid and left as fast as we could, we were expecting a bill with a comma !

Does anyone bother carrying the European Accident Statement Form ?
I've got a couple in the van and got the app. All the French carry them so probably don't need it, last time I used one was 2011 I think.

Click on the links I provided in the original message!
