A bimble from Cherbourg to the lakes and mountains of South East France and back

We cycled into Annecy this morning only to find the cycle route closed for some weird race with one of a team pair cycling and one running around the lake. We got shouted at a lot or cheered depending on the spectators or marshals on the route. Anyway we got here and it’s very pretty and won’t go back until after 3pm when the cycle path is open again!

We have filet of pork to look forward to tonight so we didn’t need a full lunch in Annecy but ended up having a Nutella, Banana and Almond pancake and a couple of coffees each whilst in town. €33 including the tip, not that I mind, just as a warning to others that it is a busy tourist resort and the prices reflect it!

We were not asked about turning the gas off before boarding so left it on but had only brought the remains in our domestic fridge with us so no freezer food to defrost!

On disembarking at Cherbourg there was a perfunctory passport check and the stamping of the passports.

We then headed for the commercial district up the hill out of town to stock up at Auchan.
All because you were not specifically asked to do it you should have done it as it says so clearly in the BF Ts&Cs. It’s also commonsense as you don’t want to cause an explosion.

Sorry but if it’s that important they would check like they do at the tunnel. Similarly if they want it done it needs to be said on the face of the ticket or somewhere obvious not buried in the pages & pages of small print T’s and C’s! BF would undoubtedly be found negligent if there was such an accident and they had failed to carry out physical checks if it was so important!

We went for another cycle ride today but went south towards Doussard. We got through the tunnel at Duingt and only a couple of Kim’s further as I had a puncture on my bike on the front motor driven wheel which was a pain to fix. Anyway we got a few photos which I will put tomorrow.

We were at Au Cour du lac at Sevrier back at the end of May. Blisteringly hot. Preferred Lac du Bourget where we subsequently moved to.

What is the cycling like? Margaret is a very nervous rider and loves the completely separate cycle track around the lake at Annecy.

We were hoping to go to Chatel next but the weather looks iffy and cold there next week so Lac du Bourget might suit us as the weather looks good!

Yesterday we did a 1.5 hour boat trip around the lake after lunch but it was hazy and overcast so not good for pictures!

Came out for a walk in the warm but wet weather with brollies and done some shopping. Tried to get a coffee and first offered a cold glass of milk as had no coffee! The second was recommended as a lovely cafe in a museum about bell making - shut at lunchtime! The third was closed half an hour ago but now open! Ordered 2 large cafe crème and we get an expresso with 3 little milk capsules each - surely this is not France? I think they are at the end of the summer season and can’t be bothered after a busy summer. We should have come on our bikes then we could have gone further afield for a cafe!
