Lovely family next to us but wondering how they sleep 6 in a VW pop top ? I presume the 4 kids up top but must be a bit of a squeeze. I am not mocking on any way . The VW is probably worth double the price of my Motorhome . Just interested. Maybe I should have just asked 😂

Maybe so... but does not say much for the parents who are prepared to have 4 of their little darling offspring "floating" around in the rear of there van..... does it?

The wearing of seatbelts did not become compulsory until 1983 for front seat people and only in 1989 for back seat passengers. Until then, we could 'float' to our hearts content!
Strangely enough, I cannot remember any children getting killed in those times, but I supposed there must have been somewhere? :unsure:

6 in a VW Pop Top.... yep definately cosy...
However I am surprised the "Fun" Health and Safety Executive Rep has not been out and asked how they actually got there.
Now I may be wrong but is there actually 6 belted travelling seats in a VW Pop Top?
Driver =1
Front bench seat +2
R+R seat in back with 3 belts +3

Plenty of certified 3 seat options.

Thanks.... I am not a VW officiando, but that looks like quite a new van...
Thought this thread was regarding much much earlier (circa 1960's) pop top.

My 1989 LHD VW Westfalia California has 3 factory fitted belted seats in the back and 2 Swivel 'Captains' seats in the front. Not many vehicles, with the possible exception of either Volvo or Saab, had seatbelts in the 60's, I don't think?

Sorry, but attached poor picture is the only one I could find showing rear seatbelts in the LHD Westy, they are nearly always tucked away and the middle seatbelt (which is the only one you can see) is just a lap belt.
