At https://tresseckcampsite.co.uk/ this weekend .
Lovely family next to us but wondering how they sleep 6 in a VW pop top ? I presume the 4 kids up top but must be a bit of a squeeze. I am not mocking on any way . The VW is probably worth double the price of my Motorhome . Just interested. Maybe I should have just asked 😂

We had a vw caravette with a popup top.
2 kids up there in fold out hammocks,1 in the front across the seats ( with a plywood folding frame) and one over the engine, and us 2 in the rock and roll bed.
Nice and cosy but no loo in those days so we had a potty.👍🤣

We had friends like that many years ago, spent a week with them in Norfolk. We had a Conway Laser folding camper that slept 6 for the two of us & our 18 month old. They has a little VW pop top camper for the two of them plus four kids ranging from 4 to 10 year old.

I’ve just enquired about the sleeping arrangements. It’s their fist ever trip out in the van and they are sleeping the 4 kids “downstairs “ and mum and dad in the pop top .
I give it 3 weeks before they sell up and get a Motorhome 😂
Whatever they do it’s great to see families enjoying the lifestyle 👍

As long as they are having a good time ,why will they sell up? its an adventure for the kids and a low cost enjoyable holiday for everyone. (y)

When I used a tent, I remember thinking how wonderful it would be to have a MH with ready made beds - and it is.

The more tent-like the vehicle, the less convenient and comfortable IMHO. OK, family are having fun.. for a night or two...

Those VWs are worth a mint but I'd settle for my Ducato based coachbuilt anytime!

The value of my 1989 VW California, is not in pounds but in the fact that it has the engine weight over the back wheels and it will go to most places I want it too + I have the ability to fix anything that goes wrong with tools, I don't need a scanner.

I love my VeeDub when the sun shines but when it's cold and wet, I love my Murvi with it's heat and space. I'm a happy man!

Had 3 Californias all a comfortable sleep for 4. After driving under any height restriction an easy six is chuck an inflatable tent under the winde out awning. First thing to put up was an inflatable toilet tent takes two mins.

In my old T25 which I converted (with a toilet) from a small Mini-bus ( no decals, no nothing just blacked out, one way , windows) I have slept in some surprising place, the centres of London, Cambridge, Oxford and lots of other places without problems. Spy out a location, go away and return later after dark and be away to a carpark before 06.30 and breakfast. Oh to be young again!

We had a1968 VW pop top and four children. Mum/dad rock and roll bed two in the bunks ,one in a bed across the front seat and the baby in the travel cot under the r&r bed .all slept soundly. We had lots of fun didn't always use the awning. We went away for 3 weeks or more. But having had two type 2 vans l can say they have personality. One would just stop and we had to wait 20min for it to start again. No reason ever found .after just sold our caravan and bought a new motor home what a difference! And just as much fun. We like the friendly wave when on the road. Didn't get that with the caravan.

Easy! You just need to be young and the sun to shine! 4 kids in the base, parents in the pop-top! An awning if you're lucky! 😄
Not much space in those vans for an awning ,with 4 kids and all thier clobber as well, plus 4 buckets and spades.
Surprised they haven't got a dog as well.

Mine is a roll-out awning that fits on the side beside the pop-top. 😄 All one needs is a windbreak, lower the awning and you can double the space!

We once slept 4 adults and 4 kids (a 6 year old, two 4 year olds and a 2 year old) in our LHD Bay pop top. It was 1983 and we’d arrived at the Portuguese border after it had had closed for the night so had to improvise! The two four year olds went in the pop top bunks, the 6 year old across the front bench seat and the 4 adults slept top to toe in the back which folded down to one huge bed with the 2 year old squished in between me and my wife! Somehow we all slept but exploded out of the van in the morning gasping for air! Fun times! 🤣

6 in a VW Pop Top.... yep definately cosy...
However I am surprised the "Fun" Health and Safety Executive Rep has not been out and asked how they actually got there.
Now I may be wrong but is there actually 6 belted travelling seats in a VW Pop Top?

Maybe so... but does not say much for the parents who are prepared to have 4 of their little darling offspring "floating" around in the rear of there van..... does it?

All mine were strapped in. We had a BS certified cross beam fitted which secured baby and child seats. This was in the 1980s. We wanted to ensure we satisfied safety and legal requirements of the time. But car safety has moved on for the better looking at my grandchildren car seats.

There was no provision in the vehicle to anchor them too!
