I just picked up a bit of chatter, that the Fiat 6.36m (ie. the L4H2 XL) vans will now only come as 4 tonne versions. Has anyone else heard the rumour?

To some extent, this makes sense - payload was always a slight concern on these PVCs.

If the UK follows the EU to a 4250kg class B driving licence then it could make sense. But it could cause some short-term issues.

Doesn't that mean that's what it's plated to? It comes with the maxi heavy suspension to take 4t from the factory. But in theory you could down-plate it to 3.5t.

As I understand it......
The max weight on a B licence will increase to 4.25t.
On vehicles the extra 750kg is to accommodate future traction batteries and has nothing to do with payload.

My 2022 6.36 with the AT9 gearbox was plated by Fiat at 3960 and then downplated by the converter to 3500.
Perhaps what the chatter is all about, is that the 6.36 with a manual box will now come out with the same wheels and brakes as the AT9 versions giving them the same MGW as the AT9 versions. Maybe not........
