RP Rebel on order
Exp
Newbie
I'm hoping to have enough funds to buy a PVC campervan in the next 6 months or so. I'm aiming for off grid capability & 4x4 on a 6m Merc base. Budget £120k.

The RP Rebel is perfect, but their order book is full. Due to illness, I'd prefer not to have to wait a year. Can anyone suggest other manufacturers please?

Requirements:
4x4, Off grid 3-5 days, Diesel heating, Elec condensing fridge, Lithium batts, gas cooking with small gas tank, multi cassette storage.
Layout:
Small table at front, seating & large table at rear, don't mind convertible beds. Nearside hab door.

Basically an RP that's made by someone else.

I'm sorry to say it Nick but I reckon you'll have the same problem with waiting list timelines no matter which manufacturer you order from.

We've been looking at various vehicles recently and even some of the conventional 4x4 and EV cars have waiting times of 12+ months, never mind campers and MoHo's which are pushing many months longer.

In all honesty I think 12-months for a rebel is fairly good.......

......I would go for the Rebel and get the exact thing you want.

Good luck,

Andrew

Have you considered buying a Merc MWB 4x4, a year or 2 old and getting it converted to your own spec. There are a couple on here who may do it for you Wissel

CS Reisemobile Rondo or Independent are quality conversions, Hamburg Germany but great English speakers. They are both rear transverse bed but speak to them, they may be able to accommodate a bespoke build.

HRZ Joy is a rear lounge conversion and you can get the 4x4 too.

I noticed when I was looking at RP, I have been to the factory in Darley Harrogate, although they have now moved to Yeadon Leeds. They had the RP rebel beginning of 2020 at £69995, 4x4 was an option at £9995, now it looks as if it’s not a specific add on option, they just offer the whole package with 4x4 included but now at £110,000. I can’t see for the life of me where the colossal increase has come from, I know the base vehicle has increased and parts have but wow, what a price increase.

Been on the Hymer site. A crossover pvc looks nice but fixed beds no good at all for us. They also have a crossover blobby, better sizing, but 7m, plus hab door on wrong side.

Happy to have a chat sometime if you wanted.

I'm at the Oveland Show at the moment - the MAN 4x4 looks a good van IMO

I wish Mercedes would make A SWB 4X4 9GTronic.

I would be ordering one.

I have been trying to get a price for A RWD 7G-Tronic in the UK. It’s like trying to plat sand.

So I am thinking of buying in Germany as it will be LHD anyway.

Yes I enquired they don’t do one, I saw Iveco had some SWB 4x4 for sale at PK trucks in the Netherlands a couple of years ago. I don’t think you can order one though and it wasn’t Iveco 4x4 system on it either.

Mercedes are not listing SWB with auto box in the UK. But they are listed in Germany.

Mercedes can’t make enough automatic gearboxes I am told

Have a word with S & L Motorhomes in Yorkshire. They have built 4x4 campers in the past and their workmanship is superb. They will build to your own design.

I popped over for another look at the 4x4 MAN TGE and glad I did as was an interesting conversation.

The stand was Seikel UK, who are the official converter for MAN and VW.

They take the standard 4x4 and add all their own extras like you can see on this site:

Price wise, about £55k ish (inc VAT) for a van like in the video below (this is after discounts).
This van has been designed for converters and has all the running gear, extra lift and all the bodywork mods. It also has single swivel seats, dual batteries and dual heaters. It's a beautifully finished vehicle.

Oh, and it's in stock now (y)

Now that’s great information many thanks, so around 55k for the van then the conversion on top the OP could get exactly what he wants spec wise/layout wise and it would also save a good chunk of the 120k which RP is asking.

I would love one too in the future on the 4x4 MWB.

Have you collected the information required from the MAN stall Wissel?

It's a VW crafter but with better dealers!

Should have brought a crafter rather than a transit!

Cheers James

Bigger than you wanted and not a PVC but is available now unlike the long wait for RP and other top-end converters. It looks a off-road, off-grid beast. Seems to be in your budget: Knauss Tribal Limited Edition on a MAN AWD...?

I have no affiliation to seller just saw the Knauss in flesh before Christmas and then noticed your thread: <Broken link removed>

A Fiat Ducato 4x4 would give you more room for a rear lounge the Mercedes is somewhat narrower which is why some of the converters place the pods at the rear so people can sleep width ways

Is that a post production 4x4 mod ?
Its a Fiat Advert for the MoHo market, what I find interesting is that I started out wanting a Mercedes Chassis but settled on the Fiat, Totally get why people want Mercedes but having had the Fiat I would not now have the Mercedes as a PVC the Ducat just lends itself for a better user experience (In my opinion) based on its internal dimensions.
