4G WiFi - MotorhomeWiFi.com or DIY version?

As I understand dBi it is a measure of electrical gain – i.e. the amount by which the aerial/antenna magnifies the incoming signal. In this case, more dBi should always be better. Is it as simple as that?
It's a measure of how much the aerial concentrates the radio waves compared to a standard dipole aerial (ie a simple stick), which more or less radiates and receives in all directions.

Omnidirectional ones concentrate them into the horizontal plane, making use of the waves that would otherwise go up into the sky or down into the ground.

Directional ones concentrate them in one direction in the horizontal and vertical planes.

10 dBi is 10 times better, 20 dBi is 100 times better.

I place it on the roof (inside a sandwich box if wet) and so far when tried in many locations, we've had no need for an aerial.
Knowing me, I’d drive away with the router still in the sandwich box on the roof ?.

This is a very useful thread as I was very tempted to go for the Motorhome Wi-fi setup at the NEC show last week. Still looking at options.

Tried the Buzzard2 and working well so far.
£35 eBay as I don't think they sell new any more. £8 unlock fee. 3G and 4G everywhere I tried.

I cant think who was selling these at one of the shows, but we went for it as it's magnetic and having a panel van is ideal, had it a long time it was on the last van and now this one, you certainly know when it's not plugged in, and of course you don't have to sit there with the blinds open, or put the mifi on the roof to get a signal, it plugs into a unlocked Huawei mifi, just drilled the rooflight to run the cables and sealed the hole. ? Firstly it's brilliant to see a very useful dialogue on this forum which I has felt at times is more like a teenager chat line (personal viewpoint and no problem with it). Back onto the subject; we have found by simply using our mobile data tethered to whatever laptop/ipad we want in most places in Europe we have managed a reasonable signal as long as you have sufficient data - job done. However we also have a mifi unit, from Motorhome WIFI, which has the benefit of being able to link up to several devices at the same time but actually for what we need we hardly use it. Vecro'ed inside just under the sunroof. We avoid linking onto a campsite external wifi as the signal is always so slow (assume many streaming tv). Very rarely are we close to a bt link. We don't run a business from our motorhome however so our use is purely recreational. We have personally found Motorhome wifi have always been very helpful - a good company to deal with.

We bought our system from motorhome wifi, and use it a lot. Even as we drive we have our phones and iPad (which is satnav) connected to it. There are places, such as outside my house, where there is zero signal, but with the aerial powered up I get pretty much full signal and 4G
support has also been fantastic from them. ??

All the gear but no idea. I bought all the gear from motorhome wifi for my previous van but never got around to having it installed.
Now have a newer van so thinking of installing it in this one so, not too happy to do it myself so can anyone suggest an installer in the West/North Yorkshire area please.
Many thanks,
Norman.

Rhino Installs, Lancashire. Phil has great reviews from all corners of the motorhome community, and he sponsors our year book (y)
