2021 Adria Compact cab roof blind; repair advice please! (3 Viewers)

We're away in the van in Wales and I opened the front roof blind this morning and it didn't go to plan! I guess one of the strings has snapped but has anyone got any tips on repairing?

I think I'll need to remove the whole unit but it looks like the storage units were put in after the blind. So they may need to come out. Looks like a big job!

Just a guess on my part but you would think the blind unit as screwed through the sides.
Thus the biggest job might be trying to, somehow, move the actual blind back to access the fixing points.

Thanks Bramidan. I've managed to get the blind straightened out and retracted, so at least it doesn't look a mess. Looking at it again, I was wondering whether you are supposed to slide the blind off the rails by removing the stops at the end of the rails, but to get to the stops you may need to take bits of the cupboards apart, and how you release the blind from the window end I have no idea.

Once again I’m reaching but surely the manufacturers wouldn’t fit the blind before the cupboards?

Sorry I can’t help but please keep this thread updated as we have the same blind on our Adria Compact. Good luck with the repair. Hopefully it won’t be as difficult as it looks.

Just a quick update on this. I reached out to Al at Signature Motorhomes about this and the advice was they usually get them replaced under warranty, but if you have to pay they are very expensive.

He suggested I removed it and tried to fix it myself, but to get it out you have to remove the top storage cupboards. I'm away in the van at the moment so will wait until I get home before I start pulling things apart. If anyone has any experience of dismantling these cupboards in a Compact, please let me know.

Thread resurrection time! Having spoken to a few people regarding my broken panoramic roof blind and in order to try and not pay up to 8 hours labour plus £800 odd for a new blind I had another go at getting it out myself and by removing a few bits and bobs and drilling a couple of holes, I succeeded.

My problem now is, having got it out and on the dining room table, no strings are broken, and I can't for the life of me figure out what has malfunctioned that results in the blind not being tensioned. There is a considerable excess of string, but it's all connected, so there must be something wrong somewhere. I was hoping that one of the great minds on here would have some thoughts. I guess the worse case scenario is that I've saved myself 8 hours labour, but even if I have to order a new blind it can take up to three months for it to arrive, which isn't great.

I know that when I am searching for solutions to issues on forums I find it extremely useful to find a thread where the OP has taken the time to update his or her plea for help with an 'I fixed it and here's how', so I fixed it and here's how.

I suspect that more and more folks will need to get access to remove their own blind in the coming years when vans go out of warranty and they don't want to pay main dealers £1,500+ to have them replace it.

I'm not one of these keen YouTuber guys who videos every move, in fact, I only grabbed a few photos when I reinstalled the blind, but hopefully it tells a tale.

The side rails of the blind unit are tucked up behind the forward storage cubbyholes and the first of the opening upper cupboards. It is attached by three screws on either side. The front two screws on each side are accessible by removing the storage cubbyhole and the third screw is accessible by removing the top cupboards. However, removing the top cupboards to access the last screw looked pretty involved, so I drilled strategic holes through the top of the cupboards to poke the screwdriver through.

First job is to remove the piece of metal trim containing the illuminated 'Adria' sign just below the panoramic window. IIRC there are 5 screws and a couple of Wago's.

Next, remove the two front storage cubbyholes. Remove the metal plate that the LED strip is attached to (3 screws) and then under that plate, remove the two screws that are angled in. Remove the single screw further towards the front of the cubbyhole. With a bit of wiggling, you can maneuver the entire cubbyhole out, taking care to slide it off the small plastic dowel located above the forward screw. With these cubbyholes removed you now have easy access to remove four forward screws (two on each rail) that hold the blind unit in place.

That just leaves the tricky two rear screws (one on each side). As I said, I didn't fancy removing all the cupboards, so I drilled two holes to access these screws. The left hand image below shows where I drilled on the drivers side (the blind has been removed but the screw put back) and the right hand image shows the passenger side (rail & screw in place), which was a bit trickier because one of the cupboard hinge screws was directly where I needed to drill a hole, but I managed to drill a slightly larger hole to one side and then cover it up nicely with the hinge.

Once the three screws on each side rail are removed, with a bit more wiggling, the blind and rails can me removed as one unit.

My blind string hadn't broken, and it took me a few days to work out what had happened, and it turned out that each of the two string loops should be attached to the top of the opposite side rail. I reckon there must have been some sort of plastic peg that attached the string and it popped out, so I put a screw in it and looped the string around it and it worked a treat. Whether it will last is anyone's guess, but at least I know now how to get the thing out.

This is obviously pretty specific to my 2021 Adria Compact, but it might be useful to someone. If anyone needs any further info or advice on this, just ask.
